Guide Questions:
1. What was the setting and the situation of the story? Why were stories important in the
situation?
 The setting of the story was in Malmö, Southern Sweden and the situation of the
story was during the war times in Middle East. Stories were important because
through this they were able to incorporate a persuasive tale about the political
persecution with the aim to be granted at the asylum.
2. Who was the main character in the story? What beliefs did he present based on his
profession?
 The main character in the story is an ambulance driver. He believe to what his
professor said that split blood and superstition is the basis of the world which
implies that everyone in the world had its own purpose to kill or to be killed.
3. What happened to the main character? What fears did he have?
 The main character was „kidnapped‟ by the young men terrorizing their
community. He was afraid that they would behead him, and that they will make
fun of his death.

4. What did the Professor mean by the saying “the world is all interconnected”? Do you
believe in his opinion?
 The world is all interconnected means even though we all have different opinions
and perspectives in life, there‟s still a commonality in us. Yes I do believe in his
opinion.
5. What did the main character‟s abductors make hi m do? Why do you think did
they make him do it?
 He was forced to film a variety of political videos playing the role of a member of
the Mehdi army, a Saudi terrorist, a Christian, a Kurdish fighter, an Iraqi army
officer, a Spanish soldier and an Afghan fighter before he was released and fled
Iraq.
6. Where was the main character taken this time? What kind of condition did he have
and what philosophies from the professor was he contemplating about to try to
understand his situation?
 The narrator was taken into a quiet place or village in a cow's pen end
place there thinking about the philosophy or his professor that though we're
connected, some of us are still under the diabolical obligations and had its safest
under darkest purpose to kill and then live.
7. What series of events happened to the main character?
 He was kidnapped and was forced to film a variety of political videos playing the
role of a Christian, a Spanish soldier, an Iraqi army officer, a Kurdish fighter, a

Saudi terrorist, a member of the Mehdi army, and an Afghan fighter before he
was released and fled Iraq.
8. How did the series of events finish for the main character? What realizations did
have?
 The cameraman helped him to escape the third group. He realized that the
cameraman and professor are the same that he cannot trust somebody anymore.
9. How did it end for the main character? What was his appeal at the end?
 He was taken to a psychiatric hospital. His appeal at the end that he wants to
sleep because he couldn‟t handle it anymore.
Understanding the Text:
1. What kind of stories was told in the refugee reception and for what purposes is these
stories told?
 The refugees have two stories. Its purpose is to obtain the right to humanitarian
asylum.
2. What do you think were the real stories told by the ambulance driver? What did these
stories say about what was happening in his country and the world?
 On my side, the real stories were he‟s captivated. These stories did say
about what was happening in his country and the world in the way of
reflecting the inhumanity of the world.

3. What was the significance of the Professor as a character in the story? What
philosophies from the Professor did the main character discuss in his stories?
 The significance of the Professor in the story is he is the one who challenged the
main character in facing wars. Some of the philosophies are: “The world is all
interconnected” and “Every man has both a poetic obligation and a human
obligation.”
4. What happened to the main character and his story at the end? What meaning did
the main character‟s “humble entreaty” suggest?
 The story ends with the main character realizing things about what happened
around him when he was gone and the meaning of his last “humble entreaty” is
an earnest plea that he wanted to take a rest from the things that happened to
him.
5. How can you interpret this statement made by the Professor: „The world is just bloody
and hypothetical story, and we are all killers and heroes. ‟?
 The Professor states that the reality and the world are barbaric. The world is full
of mystery and we could be “killers and heroes” depending how people see us as
a person.
6. In a country‟s state of war, whom do you think could tell real stories?
 Those people who are in the war and affected by it because they are the ones
experienced what happened in the battle.
