MT700C/800C SERIES TRACKED TRACTORS

SECONDARY STEERING VALVE REWORK - RP6396 MANDATORY
Advice
A design change to check valves used in the secondary steering control valve have poten-
tial to prevent the secondary steering system functioning correctly under some primary
system failure conditions. Primary steering functionality and service brake functionality are
not affected. All three check valves used in valves 223-5929 and 232-0838 will be replaced
on all machines that are potentially affected.

Action
1) Bleed the brake accumulator pressure down to at least 50 psi or less by pumping the
brakes several times until there is little resistance on the brake pedal.
2) Locate secondary steering valve as shown in figure 1. (Check valves can be fitted with-
out removing the secondary steering valve block).

3) Clean valve to prevent contamination.

4) Replace check valves at location CV1, CV2, and CV3 which will be stamped in the valve
see figure 2. The new check valves will have a black surface finish.

5. Brake System Purge: For further assistance refer to service manual.
With the engine speed set to 1000 +/- 10 RPM, perform the following steps to purge the
brake system of entrapped air:
• Fill the service brake circuit with oil by slowly applying the service brake pedal to approx-
imately 1/3 of pedal range for 10 cycles.
• Shut off tractor and bleed accumulator pressure down to less than 350 kPa (50 psi) then
restart tractor.
• Connect brake bleed lines to service brake diagnostic ports. Crop_this_page
• Press the brake pedal to achieve enough flow in order to force the air from the system.
• When clear oil starts to flow out of the tubes, slowly turn the steering wheel to the left
and hold for ten seconds. Next, slowly turn the steering wheel to the right and hold for ten
seconds. Make sure that the brake pedal is depressed while you perform this procedure.
Repeat each direction two times.
• Release the brake pedal for a period of 30 seconds after clear oil flows out the tubes.
• Apply the brake pedal again until clear oil flows from the tubes.
• Close purge screws or disconnect from the couplers after the pedal is released, but be-
fore air is drawn back through the purge lines.
• Perform the purging procedure for the hydraulic or air trailer brake if equipped.
6. Secondary Steering System Functionality Test
• In order to perform the following test, you will require 3 1000 psi gauges to place on the
ports as shown in figure 3.

With engine speed set to 1000 +/- 10 RPM, perform the following to verify the operation
of the service brake and secondary steering system:
• Service Brake Test:
1. With pedal fully APPLIED, service brake pressure should be 4826 kPa +/- 345 kPa (700
+/-50 psi) for MT800’s and 4137 kPa +/- 345 kPa (600 +/-50 psi) for MT700’s
2. With the pedal fully RELEASED, service brake pressure should be less than 50 kPa (7
psi).
• Secondary Steering Test:
1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the secondary steering isolator valve solenoid
to engage the secondary steering system. An error should display on the Dash as well as
the VT as shown in figure 4.

Dash and VT
2. With a right 1/4 turn of the steering wheel there should be resistance:
a. Right service brake pressure should be greater than 2758 kPa (400 psi)
b. Left service brake should be less than 100 kPa (14 psi).
3. Let the wheel return to centre unassisted;
a. Right brake pressure should be less than 100 kPa (14 psi).
b. Left brake pressure should be less than 100 kPa (14 psi).
4. With a left ¼ turn of the steering wheel there should be resistance:
a. Left service brake pressure should be greater than 2758 kPa (400 psi).
b. Right service brake pressure should be less than 100 kPa (14 psi).
c. Service brake valve pressure should be less than 100 kPa (14 psi).

5. Let the wheel return to centre unassisted:
a. Right brake pressure should be less than 50 kPa (7 psi).
b. Left brake pressure should be less than 50 kPa (7 psi).
6. Verify that the steering wheel remains centred with no visible movement when slowly
applying full service brake pressure
