A typical electrical distribution system consists of:

1. Subtransmission Bulk power sourse

2. Distribution substation
3. Primary feeders
4. Secondary circuits
5. Service drops

SUB-TRANSMISSION
It is that part of the electric utility system which delivers electric power from bulk power sources, such
as large transmission substations or generating stations to the distribution substations.
Sub transmission has many of the characteristics of both transmission and distribution in that it moves
relatively large amounts of power from one point to another, like transmission, and at the same time it
provides area coverage, like distribution. In some utility systems, transmission and sub transmission
voltages are identical.
The voltage of these circuits varies form 33 to 220 kV, with majority at 33, 66, 110, 132, and 220 kV
voltage levels.

Types of sub transmission system:

1. Radial system (simplest, cheapest)
2. Loop system
3. Grid or network type system

Improve Form of Radial – Type Sub transmission

An improved form of radial – type

subtransmission design is preferred in
subtransmission system design.

Why the radial system is not referred?

a. More complicated
b. Low service continuity
c. High cost
d. Low demand

2. Loop Type Sub transmission
3. Grid or Network Type Sub transmission
