C. REFLECTION
On the Job Training, also known as OJT, is a requirement provided by CHED before a college
student can graduate. It’s an internship that gives the students a taste of what work life is like in
the outside world.
I started my OJT on January 20, 2020 and ended on February 21, 2020. We were tasked to
complete 200 hours as a requirement for our course. In line with this, I have taken the role as a
legal assistant in the law firm Romulo, Jacome and Baculio Law Firm. I have learned the
following: document preparation, records management, creating simple affidavits, assisting
clients who come to the firm and coordinating with the lawyers. While I was working in this firm,
it made me more inspired and motivated to have my own law firm in the future. I also observed
that communication (verbal or writing) and connection plays a big role and one must be
knowledgeable and analytical. But at the same time, I realized how tiring it is and it takes real
hardwork to get the job done.
I realized the legal profession is a serious path to take because lawyers find the means to make
justice win and stand until the end. I am thankful this firm not only made me become more
responsible and sensible; my supervisors trained me this early to prepare what being a lawyer
and legal staff takes. Aside from that, I became more knowledgeable in applying Criminal
procedures in court, too, since we weren’t able to tackle this thoroughly in my Criminal Law
class. I appreciate how Atty. John and Atty. Carla would emphasize the importance of having
commitment.
They also corrected the mistakes I made and made me apply what I have learned in Legal
Management, especially from my Legal Research and Legal Writing subject. A few weeks
before my OJT ended, they trained me to assist and communicate with walk-in clients and I was
able to draft a few affidavits and retype legal documents. It taught me to always be prepared in
everything.
I finished my OJT quickly, but I stayed one more month to help them, considering I only had 1
subject every Friday and I’m always free. OJT has been a great and beneficial experience for
me because it made me question myself-whether being a lawyer would be worth it after law
school and how it takes dedication to become one. Overall, it pushed me to continue my studies
in law and I believe this will motivate me for law school and the outside world of legal
profession. It also made me want to become an aspiring lawyer because justice should always
prevail by all means.
