Abstract

Mobile phones are taking over our lives is a very significant issue now-a-days due
to the advance technology that has taken over the people’s mind. The importance
of this concept drove me to choose this topic and do a profound study about this
topic. I started my research with the objective that people have better things to do
rather than using advance technology like mobile phones. This report examines the
cost, the time, and the number of people who gets bullied or bullies someone
through mobile phones. Therefore, I hope my research work will help the readers
understand the importance of this issue and convince them that by restricting
mobile phones can actually make our society a better place.

Introduction

Just like the television and computers, mobile phones are technological instruments
which, as numerous studies and research show, are being used more and more
often and which are objects that people can become addicted to. The increase of
the number and types of models, as well as the services offered by mobile phones,
is assisting the increase in the number of cases of what has already become a
‘social illness’ in some countries and which has been called ‘mobile phone
addiction’ or ‘cell phone mania’.
Recent days it has been shown that the usage of mobile phones has increased
drastically over the last decade especially teenagers. They have been addicted to
the mobile phones. According to my views on mobile phones, I have seen how
people spend so much time on their phones without actually talking to people in
particular. With the constant upgrade of technology we can now do practically
anything on a device which can fit in the palm of our hands. But has it gone too
far? Do we spend too much time on our mobiles? This literature review considers
whether the usage of mobile should be restricted. There are the arise problems
caused by the mobile phones like low safety for teenagers, impacts on human
body, impacts on daily life and accidents.
The purpose of my research is to convince people to face the outer world
instead of inner technologies and help others to encourage people for the well-
being for the world, not for advance technology
I have tried to give the readers an approximate sketch of usage of mobile
phones. This research will help readers understands the importance of this issue
and convince him to make this world a better place without mobile phones.
Some readers will agree about the negativity of the mobile phones that will
take over the world but some will disagree about the negativity. They will say that
advancement of mobile phones can lead to a better world, a better place

Objective of the Study

Among the disadvantages of using a mobile phone are the hindrance they can pose
to human interaction, danger when they're used while driving and a greater
likelihood of harassment. In addition, mobile phones make their users overly
available during their time off work, resulting in a work-life imbalance. My
objective is that people have better things to do rather than using advance
technology like mobile phones.

Participants of the Profile

A survey with a questionnaire was conducted with School of Business and

Economics in my university.

Methodology

Primary data: For my primary research, I have conducted survey on my

university students. I designed a questionnaire with different types of questions to
get required data.

Secondary data: For my secondary research, I mainly used information from

internet articles and journals relevant on Mobile phones in general and particularly
about the disadvantages of mobile phones

survey group for each question separately:

Solutions
1) Preferable to outer world
The usage of mobile phones should be restricted as few people prefers the
use of mobile phones whereas majority of people chooses outer world.

2) Avoiding big mobile phone bills

A good first step in avoiding big bills is helping your child understand that
his phone is like a wallet, and that every text message, phone call or
download costs money.

Other ways that you and your child can avoid big mobile phone bills
include:
 discussing the cost of mobile phone use and agreeing on a monthly
budget
 starting with a prepaid plan. The call, text and data rates are generally
more expensive than post-paid plans, but you can set a monthly limit
 being aware that it can be easy to run up a large bill on a post-paid
plan. This is because your child can continue to make calls, send texts
and download data (at a more expensive rate) after she’s gone over the
monthly allowance

16 | P a g e
Eng 105 Advance Composition Are Mobile Phones Taking Over Our Lives?

 discussing with your child what the consequences will be if she goes
over the plan cost when using a post-paid plan
 disabling MMS messages (photos and video)
 alerting people to hidden costs – for example, costs of downloading
new music or apps, making in-app purchases, texting to get a new
ringtone or voting on a reality TV show using SMS. You can set
ground rules about not texting advertised numbers, and not purchasing
or downloading content without your permission.

3) Avoiding mobile phone ‘addiction’

Many teenagers develop a strong sense of ownership and attachment to their
mobile phones. They can be very upset if the phone is taken away or lost.
These tips might help avoid this issue:

Back up the content of your child’s phone on your home computer

every few weeks.
Think about including mobile screen time in your child’s daily screen
time allowance and agree on some ‘phone-free’ time on a weekly or
daily basis. This is a good idea if you’re concerned your child is
becoming too attached to his phone. You can be a role model by
showing your child that you can have time away from your phone too!
Take the phone away only when you’ve agreed in advance with your
child that this will be the consequence for not following agreed phone
rules. Reassure her that you won’t take away her phone if she reports
something worrying to you.

Eng 105 Advance Composition Are Mobile Phones Taking Over Our Lives?

4) Handling bullying
Using mobile phones can expose teenagers to cyberbullying. If you suspect
your child is being bullied via mobile phone, you can encourage your child
to talk to you about what’s going on.

5) On the internet
 Keep social networking pages private.
 Avoid adding “friends” you do not personally know.
 Do not provide too much personal information such as addresses, phone
numbers, and full birth dates.
 Should you witness any act of cyberbulling via any method, report it
immediately and do not participate in cyberbullying of any kind.

6) On the road
 Do not send or read a text message while driving.
 Do not talk on a cell phone while driving. If you must answer the phone,
call someone, or read or reply to a text message, pull off safely on the
side of the road first.

Conclusion
After careful analysis and comparison of the primary data (from survey) with the
secondary data I have found that in most cases there are evidences that restricting
use of mobile phone provides a wide array of benefits for the society.

The objective of study I put forward was based on what I expected since I had
some prior idea about this topic and I knew restrictions on mobile phone is
associated with some benefits for the society.
