Stage 1: Desired Results

Learning Students will:


Objectives 1) Demonstrate a variety of locomotory skills such as walking, running, hopping,
jumping, leaping, skipping, and galloping in a game of capture the gold.
2) Show teamwork skills to capture as much gold (bean bags) as possible from
their opponents.

Stage 3: Learning Experience


Prior to  Line the students up at Resources  Bean bags

Time: Content/Description Notes/Assessments:
Introduction:
Warm up game  Freeze Tag
 Explain that we will be playing Freeze Tag for our
warm up.
5 mins.  Instruct the students to join at the center of the gym.
 Enforce that there will be no sitting in gym class
today.

Say: “Whenever you hear the whistle, you need to stop


whatever you’re doing and freeze. Wait for further
instruction. If we all cooperate, we will make the best use
of our time playing some great games!”

 Practice the freezing!


 Students will run around the gym and
freeze whenever they hear the whistle.
 Explain the game (Mrs. T):
 2 freezers
 2 defrosters
 Give the students selected pinnies to
identify them as a freezer or a
defroster.
 Everyone else needs to run away from
the freezers.
 If tagged, the students must freeze in
the position they’ve been tagged in.
 Demonstrate silly positions.

 The frozen students must wait until a


defroster comes by and tags them back
into the game.

 ALTERNATE between movements
 tag via running, galloping,
skipping, two-foot hop, skipping etc.
 Blow whistle to pause game.
 Ask students to return to the center of the gym.
Body:
Activity #1: Capture the Gold
 After warmup, instruct the students to join at the
center of the gym.
 Explain that the next activity only works if students
are honest.
 Mrs. T will set up for the game. **Jami will

teams of ten students.
 In each quadrant there is two hula
hoops.
 One hula hoop contains bean bags.
 One hula hoop is the “jail”.
 A student can run to any of the three
other quadrants and attempt to TAKE
1 PIECE OF GOLD and bring it back
to their home base.
10 mins.
 When a student is running for gold,
they can be tagged by the people who
represent that quadrant.
 If they get tagged before reaching the
gold or the jail, they must go to the
other hula hoop IN THAT
QUADRANT which is the “jail”.
 Students have the choice of retrieving
gold OR saving a teammate.
 If they choose to save a teammate,
they must hold hands and skip back to
their quadrant.

 They are considered SAFE from


tagging.
 If a student successfully gets a piece of
gold, they are also SAFE from
tagging.
 They must put a hand in the air and
skip back to their side.
 When the whistle blows, students
freeze.
 The word JAILBREAK means that
students in the jails can return back to
their quadrant.

Closure:
 Blow whistle:
 Give a reminder to freeze.
 Explain to the students that it is time to
clean up.
Say: “When I say go, pick up one item from their quadrant
and return it neatly to the bins or its proper place. Return
your pinnies in the correct bin (matching color).”

 Line the students up and quietly bring them back to


the classroom.
