Physics As An Important Part of Engineering
Physics is a study of energy, matter, and their interactions. It plays an important role in the
future progress of the humankind. Physics interconnects with many interdisciplinary research
fields like biophysics, quantum chemistry, etc. It is important to study physics at school for
those who have the ambition to be at the front position of enhancing technologies and
theories that explains our reality. It provides the students with problem solving, analytical,
and quantitative abilities.
All the activities in our daily life involve the application of physics. For example, ironing
clothes, cooking, washing, answering a telephone call, listening to the radio, etc are some of
the activities where we use the principles of physics. Physics is involved in running
automobiles and trains, moving objects, flying airplanes and kites, orbiting satellites,
zooming jet planes, etc. Physics has applications in the construction of bridges, building,
roads, houses, ships and boats. Knowledge of physics will help the common people to
appreciate, comprehend and interact better with the environment. The laws of physics
elucidate the principle behind the occurrence of thunder and lightening or a rainbow in the
sky.
Many modern facilities like washing machines, refrigerator, and floor polishers make use of
the principles of physics. Physics is also applied in the systems of communication, modern
means of transportation, advancement in medicine, industry, and agriculture. So, it is a fact
that all the amenities which make the life of common people more enjoyable and comfortable
are based on solid principles of physics and its commercial applications.
Physics is the mother of all sciences. Mathematics and Chemistry are finally the derivates of
Physics. Engineering is also a form of applied science with Physics as an important part.
Initially, Engineering started with Mechanical and Civil engineering as the main branches.
Both the streams are derivatives of Mechanics which in turn is a form of Physics. Hence, the
two branches do not have any meaning without Physics. Civil engineering involves a major
part of geology, which is also a derivative of Physics.
