Situation: Suppose your company is an organization with an objective to operate


a fancy, upscale restaurant. To achieve its objective, the restaurant must define a
set of jobs, the task each job consists of, and a system for evaluating the
employee’s performance in the job. The set of jobs at your restaurant would
include a chef, a trained kitchen staff, and a professional wait staff, a maître d’, a
wine steward, and so forth. The chef’s tasks would include developing the food
motif and menu, for example. The performance measurement would be based on
revenue.

1. Explain the purpose and importance of job design, methods analysis, and work
measurement in the situation above.
 In the situation above the purpose and importance of job design, method
analysis, and work measurement is that it you will know how to manage
your restaurants’ need and the task that you will be given to your
employees. It includes connecting the worker duties to the time needed to
finish explicit errands to accomplish desired levels of performance. Job
design includes determining the work exercises of an individual or
gathering in an authoritative setting. To this end, job design looks to
improve work execution through clear definition of responsibilities diverse
work exercises.
2. What behavioral approaches to job design can you implement for the
development of your restaurant’s employees?
 Job Enrichment: It is concerned with the process of putting specialized
tasks together so that the individual who is assigned with the task is
responsible to perform the whole task.
3. What type of compensation can you give to your employees? Specify type for
each job.
 Chef - Output-based (incentive) system
 Kitchen staff - Time-based system
 A professional wait staff - Time-based system
 A maître d’ - Time-based system
