Introduction Good day everyone! Welcome to GIYA on Air in coordination with DepEd
Region IX, Zamboanga Peninsula. I am Teacher ____________ your
MatheMazing! mathematics teacher in Grade 5, Quarter 3, Week 3, Lesson 1.
Today, you will learn how to visualize, name, describe and draw polygons with
5 or more sides.
Are you ready? - SWITCH

nd pay attention.

Before we begin, make sure you have your self learning Module with you on
Week 3 Lesson 1, and , pen and paper for the different activities.

Are you ready?

Body What is a Polygon?

- Polygon is a closed-plane figure that is formed by the line segments

that meet only at their endpoints.

- Polygons are classified according to the number of their sides and

angles.
- Polygons may either be regular or irregular.
- Regular polygons have all sides congruent or the same sides.
- Irregular polygons have no sides congruent or no equal sides.

Let’s now have to- Now, let’s visualize, name, describe and draw polygons
with 5 or more sides.

 The first figure is a five-sided polygon named pentagon, from

the word “penta” which means five.
 The second figure is a six-sided polygon named hexagon,
from the word “hexa” which means six.

Dodecagon Dodeca 12

third picture with is a heptagon. It’s a polygon with 7 sides with

a prefix word “hepta” which means seven.

 The fourth picture is an octagon. Its prefix word is “octa” which

means eight. That’s why, it is an eight-sided polygon.

- It is easy, right?

Now, it is your turn to do the What’s More specifically on the Complete Me

Activity.

A. Directions: Complete the graphic organizer below by writing its name

and the number of sides inside the shapes. I’ll give you 2 minutes to
answer this activity. Let’s begin!

Answers:- Time’s up! Let’s check!

1) Very good! Octagon – 8 sides

2) You’re right ! Heptagon – 7 sides
3) Good job! Pentagon – 5 sides
4) Great! Hexagon – 6 sides

Now, let’s have another Complete Me Activity in letter B.

B. Directions: Name each polygon described. Let’s start!

_____________ 1) A polygon with 6 sides and 6 angles. PAUSE

Correct !
Answer: Hexagon
