Ibiza 02 Climate control
A new climate control system has been
developed for the Ibiza 02 with the objective
of satisfying the different desires of all our
customers.
One single build concept will now come
with three different versions.
The heating and ventilation version will
provide the simplest option.
The air conditioning version, will
incorporate an electronic management function
to set the temperature within the passenger
compartment by operating the temperature flap
and controlling the compressor operation.
Finally, the climatronic version will provide
complete automatic adjustment of the internal
temperature and air flow as well as operating
and controlling the compressor.

cardiagn.com
One of the remarkable new features of this
system is the fitting of an externally controlled
compressor which is no longer driven by a
magnetic clutch. The compressor is now
operated using a solenoid governed by the
climatronic control unit.
Both the air conditioning and climatronic
versions come with extensive self-diagnosis
systems, providing rapid and accurate fault
localisation as well as the adjustment of the
operating parameters.

CLIMATE CONTROL

With the objective of providing the user with the desired temperature in the interior of the vehicle,
the Ibiza 02 comes with the following equipment:

HEATING VENTILATION
The operating knobs can be rotated to
set the desired temperature and airflow
output using bowden cable
connections to control the
different flaps.
The air recirculation is
switched on and off by a
button which operates
an electric motor to
control the
corresponding flap.
The blower can be
switched on and the
speed set using the
control knob to vary the
resistance in the supply
line.

CLIMATRONIC
This is a completely automatic climate control
system which operates the flaps of the
climate control assembly, the blower
speed and the operation and
setting of the compressor.
The user is constantly
informed of the system
operation since the
data is displayed on
the climatronic
screen. This
same screen is

AIR CONDITIONING
This is a newly developed automatic system
governed by a control unit.
The functions of the heating and ventilation
system are supplemented here with 3 temperature
sensors and a motor for the temperature flap. This
set up is designed to regulate the internal temperature

according to the level selected by the user. The
compressor is switched on using a button and its adjustment as
well as the operation of the different flap motors is taken care of by the air conditioning control
unit.

Due to the elimination of the magnetic clutch,
a new safety system was designed to ensure

components.
When this system is working normally, the
rubber lugs ensure that the drive is transmitted
from the pulley operated by the poly v belt to the
disk which is integrated with the compressor.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL COMPONENTS

Both the air conditioning and climatronic

systems are fitted with electronic adjustment.
The main difference between both systems
resides in the number of functions which can be
performed automatically.
In the case of the air conditioning system,
the interior temperature is regulated
automatically according to the initial selection
made by the user.
The blower speed, the compressor operation
and the air flow outlets are manually controlled
using the rotary knobs and buttons in the
operating unit.
On the climatronic system, all operating
parameters such as blower speed, position of
G65 Electronic pressure
flaps, compressor operation and settings, are
sensor

cardiagn.com
automatically controlled, and the system only
requires the temperature setting selected by the
user.
The user can manually change any of the Electrical load
parameters and the others will continue to be
goverened by the control unit.
To preform its tasks, the climate control
system requires information from different
sensors and actuators. The majority of these are
common to both systems although the
climatronic is the most comprehensive of the
two.

avoiding the risk of evaporator frosting.

REPLACEMENT FUNCTION
If this signal is not available or the sensor is

FUNCTION 02 "CONSULT THE FAULT MEMORY"
The fault memory of the climatronic control unit picks up the faults in the sensors and actuators
shaded in yellow in the adjoining diagram, those in brown are picked up by the instrument panel while
the orange coloured units have their faults held by the on board network control unit.

FUNCTION 04 "START BASIC SETTING"

This function enables the control unit of the climate control system to operate the different flap
motors over their complete cycle of opening and closing, in order to determine the limit point of each
one.
This operation should always be done whenever any of the motors or the control unit is replaced.
To begin the setting enter the group 001 of the basic setting and wait until the signal of completed
adjustment appears, the function can then be terminated.

FUNCTION 08 " READ MEASURE BLOCK VALUE"

This function enables the majority of the climate control working values to be visualised and their
analysis can often enable faults to be found which were not stored in the fault memory.
