Good morning classmates, Good morning Sir Agot. So this is my SDAA.

SEE
- What is the most pressing social issue in our country you are concerned
about?
So the social issue that I will be discussing about is POVERTY. Yes this social issue has
already been discussed by one of our classmates, but I also want to share my thoughts
about it as well.
- What have you observed in the society that you think requires moral
attention?
- How is this social issue related to what you have observed affecting each
person?
Poverty is a major social-political issue. Throughout the world millions of people are
suffering from poverty and its effects. Poverty has been called “the world’s most ruthless
killer and the greatest cause of suffering on earth”. There are a lot of effects of poverty in
our country that make it difficult for people to live in such circumstances. Like
1. Malnutrition
It is the most common effect in Poverty. People living in poverty rarely have access
to highly nutritious foods. Even if they have access to these foods, it is unlikely that
they are able to purchase them. The healthiest foods are usually the most
expensive; therefore, a family on a very small budget is much more likely to
purchase food that is less nutritious, simply because that is all they can afford.
2. Health
Diseases are very common in people living in poverty because they lack the
resources to maintain a healthy living environment. They are almost always lacking
in nutritious foods, which decreases their bodies’ ability to fight off diseases. In
general, people living in poverty cannot afford appropriate medicines to treat
illnesses.
3. Education
Many people living in poverty are unable to attend school from a very early age.
Families may not be able to afford the necessary clothing or school supplies.
Others may not have a way for their children to get to school.
4. Economy
Mainly, the number of people living in poverty influences employment rates heavily.
Without an education, people are unlikely to find a paying job.
DISCERN
- What do you think about this social issue?
- What do you think should be done?
What I think about Poverty is that, it hits children the hardest. They need to grow up
healthy but a lot of them don’t have this possibility. The worst thing is that hunger doesn’t
affect only childrens’ health, but also their development in every way- emotional, physical
and spiritual. Let’s not forget that children are the future of our planet, so we can’t let them
die. They should have money for food and education, because later on, they will be able
to do something to help our country. Many children want to develop themselves but
unfortunately they don’t have this opportunity. And it is not fair because all of us should
have equal rights and a level playing field.
- What does the Catholic Faith say on this?
Jesus himself taught the importance of helping those who are poor and need help. How
we treat the poor is a major concern throughout the Bible, from The Old Testament to The
New Testament, from Genesis to Revelation. You simply cannot have the gospel of Jesus
and neglect the call to care for the poor, impoverished, marginalized, and outcast — those
on the underside of power. If we desire God’s religion, then we must be people who
prioritize loving the poor or the impoverished. I actually read something that attracted my
attention. It is something that Mother Teresa said. She said “We think sometimes that
poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted,
unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty.” I really like this quote because it shows
a real situation of poverty. Mother Teresa’s words make us think over this and realize that
hungry people don’t need only food and a safe place to live, but also they need to see
that they are loved.

ACT
- What is it that you want to change?
In my opinion, what I wanna change is Corruption. Corruption is also one of the
major problems our country has been suffering for the past decades up to now.
Corruption affects poverty by first impacting economic growth factors, which, in turn,
impact poverty levels. If corruption will be stopped, many Filipinos will rise up from
poverty.
- What are the actions that you can do now?

- How can you participate in solving the problem?

One of the simple ways I can do or you can do is to Donate. You can donate goods,
services, money, clothes, food, toys and many more. Donating is a selfless act. It really
feels good to help others because being able to give to those who are in need helps you
achieve a greater sense of personal satisfaction and growth. You can also use your
social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to raise your voice and
create awareness; and you can also connect to various charity organizations or
community centers involved in helping the poor. You can also join a fund raiser
community or engage yourself with some organization who are involved in raising funds.

ASSESS

- What have you learned from your actions and in the process?

- How do you find yourself in the process of being with the oppressed?

What I have learned is that Poverty teaches us to survive with limited means. We
should learn how to accept the harsh realities of life and find happiness in little things.
You don’t need materialistic things. Poor people are not interested in having luxury
things like jewels, fancy clothes, big houses or expensive cars. All that they want is to
have health. They want to have better conditions to live and it is the only thing that can
make these people happy. We should learn how to invest time and effort in more
meaningful things. We should be grateful and appreciate every little thing that we have.

- How did the process change you as a good citizen and a true follower of
Christ?

So we all know that God has a special concern and care for those who are in need. And
like what I said awhile ago, the Bible teaches that if we really love God, then we should
be helping, serving, and giving to the poor. We should always keep in mind that helping
and serving the poor is also giving to God. If you are sincerely serving the needs of the
poor in a helpful and healthy way, you are actually giving to God and also honoring Him.
It is time to integrate with each other for one cause because these people need us, it is
time to show that we have hearts and we really understand how serious the problem is
and it is time to be people and to show that we care not only for ourselves, but also for
others in our country. So let’s help before it is too late and let’s show these people that
they are not alone and somebody, somewhere cares about them. Thank you for
listening.
