Subject Earth Science

Grade Level 9th

Learning Objective ES.2 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the nature
of science and scientific reasoning and logic.
Key concepts include
a) science explains and predicts the interactions and dynamics of
complex Earth systems;
b) evidence is required to evaluate hypotheses and explanations;
c) observation and logic are essential for reaching a conclusion;
and
d) evidence is evaluated for scientific theories.

ES.3 The student will investigate and understand the

characteristics of Earth and the solar system.
Key concepts include
a) position of Earth in the solar system;
b) sun-Earth-moon relationships; (seasons, tides, and eclipses);
c) characteristics of the sun, planets and their moons, comets,
meteors, and asteroids; and
d) the history and contributions of space exploration.
Pedagogy

Online Activity 1. Together, me and my students will meet on a zoom

meeting so we are able to share our screens with each
other and converse about what we are each learning
throughout the lesson.
2. Before the students begin this activity, I will ask them to
each make a hypothesis of what they think would
happen with no gravity.
3. In this activity, students will move the sun, moon, and
space station to see how it affects the gravitational
forces and orbital paths.
4. They will then take turns sharing their screen with each
everyone and explaining how they moved the sun,
moon, and space station, and what was the outcome.
5. They will then be able to answer if their hypothesis was
correct.
