Covid-19

What is the Coronavirus?

The coronavirus is a deadly virus that spreads through the air by
droplets from someone who is infected. Older people and people with
health issues are the main people that are in the high risk category. The coronavirus is yet to
have a vaccine and the numbers are rising.

Symptoms
This virus has some key symptoms to be one
to look out for such as: cough, fever, headache,
loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath, and
sore throat. But, you could also be
asymptomatic which means you are showing no
symptoms and not know you are spreading the
virus.

How to Protect Yourself
There are three main ways to protect yourself from the virus, always wear a mask when in
public, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer whenever you touch something in public, and
keep yourself socially distanced from others.

Mask
The main reason for wearing a mask is to keep others' droplets away from you and to keep
your droplets to yourself. Droplets are the main way the coronavirus is spread; we need to
protect ourselves against them. Health Affairs did a study in 15 states with mandatory mask
laws and found that it led to a decrease in daily covid cases. This study proves that masks do
help and make a big difference when used.

Washing Your Hands
Washing your hands right now is so important because you can easily pick up the virus from
touching something that an infected person has touched or their droplets have fallen on.
According to the Center for Disease Control, “Washing your hands is easy, and it's one
of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Clean hands can stop germs
from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community”(CDC).
A quick 30 second wash could help you and your community stay safe from the virus.

Social Distancing
The last main way to protect yourself from the coronavirus is social distancing. Social
distancing is keeping you and your family a good six feet from other families in public to reduce
the chances of catching the virus by someone around you. The CDC says this is so important
because when someone coughs or sneezes their droplets are launched into the air, and of
there's no one around them, then they can't contaninmate anyone.
