    Codes & Standards The selection of the HVAC system is often


    constrained by various local codes and ASHRAE
    standards. As a minimum, the design shall follow:

    • ASHRAE Standard 15: Safety Standard for


    Refrigeration Systems,

    • ASHRAE Standard 55: Thermal


    Environmental Conditions for Human
    Occupancy,

    • ASHRAE Standard 62: Ventilation for


    Acceptable Indoor Air Quality, and

    • ASHRAE Standard 90.1: Energy Standard


    for Buildings except Low-Rise Residential
    Buildings.

    In addition the HVAC system selection is influence


    by statutory standards:

    • Government and local regulation on


    occupancy & safety classification;

    • Regulations of Public utilities on electrical
