How important would benefits like those offered by Whole Foods be to you if
you were working there to put yourself through school or to collect a paycheck while
looking for a position in your chosen field?

2. What negative elements do you see in Whole Foods approach to pay and
benefits?

3. Why don't more companies use the approach to employee health care pioneered
by Whole Foods?

1. Whole Foods Market provides health plans and benefits where expenditures that
are related to health are completely covered by the company. As a student that is
just looking to move up through school, I would not think of benefits such as a
health plan and I would most likely focus on just making money and having an
easy work schedule. However, as someone who would look for a job for the sake
of financial sustainability, it is not all about making a paycheck, packages such as
health insurance and benefits play a crucial factor in deciding where to work.

2. Despite having a health plan that is quite effective and attractive for any
applicant looking for a job, there are downsides that come along with it. There is
a high deductible plan to make more employees more responsible since there is
only so much expenses that the company can cover. There was also the whole
issue where many employees complained about the expenses which forced the
company to come up with a new plan. The higher plan saves money for
employers so that it is not that favorable for employees which means that their
plan is not that effective for instances of emergencies.

3. I believe that the reason companies do not implement this system of having
health benefits is because companies find it too expensive to provide any extra
benefits such as health insurance to provide them for each individual employee.
Some companies don’t bother providing them as a means to cut costs, especially
for employees that are low in the company hierarchy and even provide the
simple minimum wage.
