INTERNATIONAL PERIODONTOLOGY & IMPLANTOLOGY FELLOWSHIP – 2018

OBJECTIVE

This program is designed to train dentists in Fundamental Knowledge in Periodontology and

Implantology with emphasis on bone augmentations; equipping them with knowledge that are

evidence-based, in order they will be able to plan, initiate and carry out the best treatment plan for

their patients. During the course, each participant will grow with confidence to take on cases ranging

from the simplest to even the most complex.

MODULE– 1

DIAGNOSIS AND PROTOCOL FOR CONSERVATIVE TREATMENTS

− Anatomy and microbiology of healthy and periodontally compromised tissue

− Protocol for first managing the patient

− Data collection and documentation

− Manual and ultrasonic instrumentation

− Scaling and root planning for natural teeth

− Not Surgical therapy: laser photodynamic and topical chemical treatment

− Recall strategies

− Increasing loyalty of the patient

− Indications for laser assisted not surgical therapy

The knowledge of the typology of the patient is strategic in the diagnostic pattern to avoid

mistakes in the treatment plan. Particular practical topics will be emphasized to give the

attendants the best rationale base to set up a clinical case and manage the best approach for

focusing the treatment plan

MODULE 2

DIAGNOSIS AND PROTOCOL FOR CONSERVATIVE TREATMENTS

RATIONALE BASE FOR PERIODONATAL SURGICAL THERAPY

− Rational basis for surgical approach

− The wound healing

− Incision and flap design

− The Open Flap Debridement

− Passive altered eruption treatment

− Gummy smile surgical treatment

− Osseo resective surgery and crown lengthening

− Post surgical mangement

− Identifying and recommending alternative implant treatment.

The knowledge of the typology of the patient is strategic in the diagnostic pattern to avoid mistakes

in the treatment plan. Particular practical topics will be emphasized to give the attendants the best

rationale base to set up a clinical case and manage a surgical approach to the defect.

MODULE 3

SURGICAL REGENERATIVE TREATMENT OF PERIODONTAL DISEASES
AND APPROACH TO FRONTAL AREA

− Rational base of the surgery
in the frontal area

− Type of access flap to the defect
for aesthetic area

− Debridement technique

− Root surface treatment

− Guided tissues regeneration

− Barriers and bone substitutes

− Crown lengthening for aesthetic smile design

This is the first step of surgical treatment for periodontal disease in and around teeth or dental

implants. Step by step procedure will demonstrate a pragmatic and well established surgical

technique, that gives predictable results for the management of the defect in the frontal area.

MODULE 4 –

MUCOGINGIVAL SURGERY AND SOFT TISSUES SURGEY AROUND TEETH AND IMPLANTS

− Perio-plastic surgery

− Aesthetics in Periodontology and Implantology

− Combination of restorative and perio treatment

− Surgical procedures

− Connective tissue taking

− Suturing techniques

− Correcting lack of soft tissues around implants

Mucogingival surgery is the base healing of the soft tissues. After a discussion of several cases with

gingival recessions, particular emphasis will be given to all the strategies to prevent and correct soft

tissues lacking around teeth and dental implants.

MODULE 5 IMPLANT SURGERY

−
When save the tooth or place implant

− the osseointegration
process

− Incision and flap design in implant surgery

− Surgical anatomy and Implant insertion protocol

− Principal concept and difference of various implant system

− The reopening intervention and management of soft tissues

− Time of implant loading

This module is an overview on the general principles of implant healing and time of loading. The

differences between periodontal and implant surgery will be focused. Implant insertion in normal

condition, the protsthetic guided insertion and the loading time will be discussed.
