Technical Background
Manufacturing processes may vary by model, engine or assembly location. Not all replacement engines are prefilled
with oil. Repairs also create a lack of necessary lubrication. Utilize the following procedure to prevent starting with a
lack of lubrication, which could result in engine damage. Pressurizing the oil circuits before starting the engine will
ensure lubrication that will protect the internal components from damage during the first rotation of the crankshaft
when the engine starts.
Service
During new or rebuilt engine installation or after internal repairs, when first filling with oil, the turbo housing should also
be filled with oil at the upper banjo bolt aperture.
Repeat the cranking procedure without the fuel pump fuse 3 times, allowing the starter to cool between each
cranking cycle.
This is done in order to allow the oil pressure to build and to circulate the oil before allowing engine to run. Also be
sure to perform guided functions procedures outlined in ELSA, after repair work (chain replacement, engine
replacement, etc).
