RETAINING WALL

DEFINITIONS

Topsoil Stripping : Material on original ground usually


comprising shrubs, vegetation, roots,
humus with depth as nominated in
construction drawings or specifications.
Unsuitable Material
: Generally soft peat, slurry and muddy
material. May be of organic composition.
This material has no structural value.
Cut and Fill :
These are major earthworks operations. Cut
refers to the removal of excess material to
Clearing and Grubbing reach formation level.

Concreting : Excavation of soils

Formwork : The use of designed concrete grade.

ACTIVITY

Stage 1 : Survey Works

1.1 Carry out survey earthworks to identify proper position/level of


R.C wall.

Stage 2 : Excavation

2.1 Excavation to the level required.


2.2 Protect slope from falling.

Stage 3 : Lean Concrete

3.1 Lay 50mm thick lean concrete.

Stage 4 : Placement of formwork

4.1 Placement of formwork for footing.

Stage 5 : Placement of reinforcement

4.2 Placement of reinforcement in the formwork and tied up


properly.
4.3 Install weepholes at specified locations

Stage 6 : Concreting works

4.4 Pour concrete to footing.


4.5 Vibrating concrete in footing

Stage 7 : Backfilling and compact earth

4.6 Backfill and spread the soil using selected backfill


4.7 Compact the soil in layers of 0.3m thick

Stage 8 : Placement of formwork for wall

4.8 Placement of formwork for the wall.

Stage 9 : Placement of reinforcement

4.9 Placement of reinforcement in the formwork and tied up


properly.
4.10 Install weepholes at specified locations

Stage 10 : Concreting works

4.11 Pour concrete to wall.

Stage 11 : Strike the formworks
4.13 Strike the formwork.

Stage 12 : Backfiling and compact earth

4.14 Backfill and spread the soil using selected backfill


4.15 Compact the soil in layers of 0.3m thick

Stage 13 : Site clearance

4.16 Clear the site from all construction debris
