ETHICAL ISSUES IN DAILY
WORK PRACTICES
DECLARATION

I, Sonia Sharma, certify that the Project Report

entitled “ETHICAL ISSUES IN DAILY WORK PRACTICES”
submitted by me in partial fulfilment of Masters of Film and TV
production from Amity University, UP is my bona fide work and
has not been submitted anywhere earlier.
Introduction

Internshala is an employment website company which connects

students and employers. It enables students to find and apply for
internships; and help employers to get interns easily for their
company.
This report includes the analysis of unethical practices in the
daily workplace environment and within the framework of the
company.

The report gives an insight to major problems faced by the

people and instills thinking, awareness and suggests some areas
of improvement and changes to be made in the working of the
company to tackle the unethical practices effectively.

The information is collected from former employees of the

company and students who used and completed internships
through Internshala.

Findings

Customers and employees have mentioned these most frequent

ethical violations in the working and policy framework of the
company. Internshala has big ethical loopholes in many of its
departments: What I analyzed are Marketing and communication
department, management, cyber security, rules and policy
framework.

1. Fake internships and employers are to be found frequently.

The employer verification process and method need
improvement. The company has also failed to provide
solutions to the victims.
2. Employers providing hectic work which is not ideal in an
internship. They want to get their work done for free in the
name of internships and Internshala has failed to address this
issue.
3. Employers not providing certificate of internship.
4. The thing called ‘Performance based pay’ is fooling
everyone.
5. Internshala does not pay for overtime.
6. Poor work-life balance
7. Unresponsive or sometimes take a month to response to
Emails and tweets.
8. Do not have proper set of employment provision rules and
have a very poor customer support service and relations with
their customers.
9. Lack of communication between employer and higher
authority.
10. Information about company owner is not known ti
Internshala themselves which is very dangerous and
unethical.
11. Late salaries
12. Less salary package for a good job position.
13. Poor management and careless towards their own
interns and student partners who represent their company in
their education institutions.
14. There are no meetups, poor communication and
coordination between employees and upper management or
posts. Everything is virtual only.
15. Faced office politics and dictatorial behavior of
management.

Conclusion

Internshala needs to improve its:

1. Remuneration system – Acknowledge the hard work, job
position and pay accordingly and timely. Pay for overtime
and manage the work-life balance.

2. Management style and practices – Motivation, proper

training, define and manage job roles and responsibilities
effectively, should be responsive and available to
communicate.

3. Company rules and policies – Need to improve their

problem solving and solution providing framework.
Currently, all that they do in case of violations is remove
the employer account and do not cater to the needs of the
interns.
4. Improve cyber security – This is a major issue faced by the
interns and Internshala is highly unethical when it comes to
investigate, authenticate and provide owner information.

5. Customer service – The company has a very poor, lethargic

and unresponsive communication system and customer
support team. It seems like they don’t even have such a
team. They are creating an image of being an
unaccountable company.

The company policies are very loose which are the reason for all
these unethical practices to occur. An overall improvement in
the company policies is necessary to tackle with all the
mentioned unethical practices.
