Father desires that we participate in her mission of evangelization. Our membership in the Church therefore carries with it not only the privilege of being called God’s sons and daughters, but also the responsibility of proclaiming the Gospel not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with deep conviction. CONCEPTS: WHAT IS GOOD NEWS? CONTEXT: Our world today enjoys so much in the field of science and technology, communications and transportation, medicine, entertainment and business. This progress made our life easier and more comfortable. Blessing is the gifts God gives us in all areas of life, mental, emotional, spiritual, physical & “stuff/material things.”
GOD’S ULTIMATE BLESSING:
Sin ruined that plan in the beginning, but GOD gives us the ultimate BLESSING of restoration, forgiveness and eternal life through JESUS. Jesus pours out all his attributes onto us: his love and joy, peace and patience, kindness and goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness. WHAT IS OUR MISSION AS MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH?
EVANGELIZATION WHAT IS LOVE AND GOODNESS?
LOVE is something that restores the meaning of our lives.
Goodness is every authentic experience of TRUTH which seeks to grow to a person who experienced profound liberation from sin and becomes sensitive to the needs of others. WHY ARE WE CALLED TO BE THE BEARER OF GOOD NEWS?
By virtue of Baptism we become members of the Catholic
Church. As members of the Church, we are given the same mission of spreading the Good News that Jesus entrusted to His disciples or followers.
Jesus said to them, “ Go and make disciples of all nations
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Mt. 28:19-22) WHY ARE WE CALLED BEARERS OF GOOD NEWS?
1. We are members of the Church which Jesus has given
the mission of spreading the good news to all nations. (Mt. 28:19) 2. The mission that we received from Jesus carries with it the same assurance and inspiration which Jesus gave His disciples that He shall be with them until the end of time.(Mt. 28:20) 3.We follow Jesus’ ways of spreading God’s love characterized by fidelity to His Father manifested in His actions the kind of love that He preaches. WHAT ARE THE MISSIONARY CHARACTERS OF THE CHURCH BASED OF THE MANDATE OF JESUS?
1. It spring first of all from her being evangelized.
2. Being evangelized, her members are called to share the good news they have received. 3. Sharing the good news means showing to others the love of Jesus. 4. This means that this community of believers has heard and received from Jesus, through the apostles, the teachings and the witness of the power of God. 5. Having received these teachings, the members of the Church are called to witness them in their daily life. WHAT ARE THE DEMANDS OF THE MISSIONARY CHARACTER OF THE CHURCH? HOW ARE WE GOING TO BE GOOD NEWS FOR OTHERS? HOW ARE WE GOING TO BE GOOD NEWS FOR OTHERS? GOSPEL READING: THE COMMISIONING OF THE DISCIPLES Mt. 28:18-20
The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the
mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw Him, they worshipped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always until the end of the age. St. Gabriel whose real name was Francis illustrated that it is never too late for anyone to turn back to God no matter how wayward one’s life had been. He lived a very carefree teenage life although he grew up in a family devoted to Our Lady of Sorrows. He enjoyed fun activities like dancing, hunting and dating but eventually felt that there was something missing. In his loneliness he turned to Jesus and His Mother. It was then that he felt a strong calling to be a priest. After many trials he was accepted as Passionist priest. From then on he become devoted to Our Lady of Sorrow and was transformed into a perfect Christian virtue. He died at age 24. He was declared Saint by His Holiness Benedict XV in 1920. He is patron of young people, students, seminarians and clerics. His Feast day is on Feb. 27. Bringing the good news to others is a mission given to all baptized Christians but; being good news yourself to them will make you a “special disciples of Christ.” You can always do something to help people in your immediate community and become like Jesus in your own little way.
