Notes on the phenomenon Connection diagram

known as ferroresonance A A A
A single-pole VT, connected between phase and earth,
installed on mains with insulated neutral wire or not
effectively grounded, may exhibit the phenomenon of
ferroresonance.
N N N
The voltage transformer inductance and system
capacity to ground (line or cable capacity, power factor
correction condensers etc.) will generate a potentially n n n
oscillating RLC circuit. Should an overvoltage occur in
the medium voltage system for any reason (phase-
earth fault, operated switches ...), such overvoltage will
increase the VT working induction and therefore cause
the magnetization impedance value to decrease to a
a a a
value similar to the system capacitive impedance.
The similarity of these two impedance values will da da da
produce resonance.

In the RLC oscillator circuit, oscillations are created

with a frequency of approximately 1/3 of the mains
frequency, which will occur as soon as ceases the

These low-frequency oscillations will determine a
saturation of the VT magnetic core and considerably 59

Selection criteria Terminal markings

1 Define the Primary Voltage Up
According to the installation voltage (U) and the type of Single (grounded) pole
transformer connection: between phase and earth:
(Up = U/3) or between phase and phase (Up = U)
VT accuracy is always guaranteed between 0.8 Un and
1.2 Un. Use this information to choose
standard voltage values.
2 Define the rated insulation level
The rated insulation level should be that immediately
above the primary voltage level.
N.B.: The industrial power frequency test according to
IEC standards should be carried out by applying the
formula: 1 secondary 2 secondaries 2 secondaries
5 x Up with a maximum value given by the (instrument or protection) (one instrument and one residual voltage) (two instrument
