Outline After the assassination of Julius Caesar, Rome is ruled by a triumvirate, locked in a struggle for power. Mark Antony is beguiled by
Cleopatra, the Egyptian Queen, and neglects his duties in Rome. Eventually, there is open warfare between Antony and Octavius
Caesar. Antony loses, and Cleopatra takes her own life (with the aid of literature's second most famous snake.)
A Forty-Minute Coriolanus

Outline In the early days of the Roman republic, Caius Martius Coriolanus is a brilliant Roman General, but contemptuous of the civilian
population. After a successful military campaign against the Volsces (an Italian tribe), Coriolanus runs for Consul. He is supported by
the Senate, but the common people are stirred-up to riot against him. Still contemptuous of the people, Corilanus is exciled from Rome
and takes his revenge by leading the Volsces against Rome. His mother intervenes and persuades him to sign a peace treaty.
Unfortunately, his Volscian allies see this as a betrayal, and Coriolanus pays the price.
A Forty-Minute Henry IV Part 1

Outline Henry IV is at odds with his nobles, even those who helped him usurp Richard II. Meanwhile his son, Prince Hal has absentend himself
from court and is spending his time in taverns with Sir John Falstaff and his clique. Things come to a head with a rebellion, led by Harry
Hotspur and at last the dissolute Prince Hal proves himself a warrior.
A Forty-Minute Henry IV Part 2

Outline King Henry IV is facing rebellion on a scale close to civil war. Meanwhile, his son and heir, Prince Hal, is spending his youth carousing
and brawling in taverns in the company of the wastrel Falstaff. If a successful transition is to be made, the old king needs to keep the
kingdom together and his son needs to reform.

Outline King Henry the Fifth is at war with the French, and facing daunting odds. He rallies his troops, wanders amongst them in disguise to

Outline The king proposes to retire and divide his kingdom amongst his daughters. The elder two, Goneril and Regan, are happy to sweet-talk
their father and go along with his plans - just until they have power. Cordelia, the youngest, loves her father, but refuses to flatter him,
and, as a result, is banished. Soon the elder daughters take power and dishonour their father. Edmund, illegitimate son of the Duke of
Gloster, aids Goneril and Regan, but becomes a focus for their rivalry. With Lear cast out, there is war between Cordelia and her sisters.
Playing-out the themes of pride, deceit and jealousy, all ends tragically.
A Forty-Minute Love's Labour's Lost

Outline Othello, a Moorish general in the Venetian army, secretly marries Desdemona, daughter of a nobleman. Roderigo, a suitor of
Desdemona, and Iago, a jealous soldier, conspire against Othello, turning him against Desdemona, with disastrous consequences.

A Forty-Minute Richard II

Style Abridgement of William Shakespeare's 'The Life and Death of King Richard II', with the original text cut down to under 40 minutes.
Outline King Richard II is approached by both Henry Bolingbroke and Thomas Mowbray, the Duke of Norfolk, who wish him to judge a duel
between them. Both Richard and John of Gaunt oppose the duel, but Richard agrees to oversee it. As the duel commences Richard
interrupts and banishes both men from England. Mowbray predicts this as the first act leading to Richard's downfall. Following John of
Gaunt's death, Richard appropriates all his money and lands. As Richard plots a war on Ireland, the nobility seek to overthrow him and
place Bolingbroke on the throne.
A Forty-Minute Two Gentlemen of Verona

Outline The two gentlemen in question are Valentine and Proteus. Valentine wants Proteus to be his travelling companion on a tour, but Proteus
wishes to stay behind and court Julia, a coy young lady who likes Proteus, but is too shy to admit it - at least until Proteus's father sends
him away to join Valentine in Milan. However, in Milan, Proteus falls for Sylvia, whom Valentine is courting. There follows rivalry,
betrayal, banishment, outlaws, cross-dressing and the occasional swoon before all ends happily!
A Forty-Minute Winter's Tale

Style Abridgement of William Shakespeare's 'The Winter's Tale', with the original text cut down to 40 minutes.
Outline Leontes, King of Sicilia, suspects his wife Hermione of having an affair with Polixenes, the King of Bohemia. (Herminone and
Polixenes are innocent.) Polixenes escapes Leontes' wrath, but Hermione does not and is imprisoned. Hermione gives birth to a
daughter, but Leontes does not believe the child, Perdita, to be his and sends her abroad. She is abandoned on the coast of Bohemia (a
feat which would be frowned upon these days, owing to Geography) and Perdita is brought-up by a Shepherd. Time (making a guest
appearance) moves the play on sixteen years, and Florizel, son of Polixenes, meets and falls in love with Perdita, the shepherdess, thus
setting-up the inevitable reconcilliation and happy ending.

Outline A tornado plucks Dorothy Gale from Kansas and drops her and, more significantly (from the perspective of a tendancy to squish), her
house, on top of a despised witch. Two quests follow (as do a scarecrow, a tin man and a lion), before she is able to return home.
A Lesson Learnt

Outline This is 'Mother Goose' in the American sense - a vehicle for stories and rhymes, rather than the English sense of a particular story about
a character called Mother Goose. (For anyone curious about this difference, the American sense is taken from Charles Perrault's
collection of fairy stories 'Les Contes de ma mère l'Oye' - literally 'The Tales of my mother the Goose' whilst the English version is the
tale of the Goose that laid the golden eggs - generally given the English pantomime treatment, for which see elsewhere on this site.)
Anyway, in this case it's a collection of original stories and songs based on nursery stories and characters.

A Pottle of Brains

Style One-act comedy play for kids. It's based on a fairytale, so contains a couple of gruesome moments (which, happen off-stage). Simple
(negligible!) sets.
Outline Tom the Fool has absolutely no common sense, and his mother wishes for him to have a 'pottle of brains' so he can take care of himself
after she is gone. She sends him to the old woman on top of the hill, who claims not to be a witch in any shape or form, but who asks
him to bring back the heart of what he likes the most and answer one of her riddles. Eventually, after discovering what it means to
sacrifice what you like the most, Tom receives a pottle of brains - but not in the way you would expect!
A Right Royal Mess

Outline The King and Queen are trying to select a husband for their daughter unbeknownst to her. If only they wouldn't keep being interrupted

A Spell of Bad Weather

A Tale Of A Nail

roles. Fantasy, but with a lot of educational value.
Outline When Mr Gauche accidentally hammers a nail through his thumb, he only wants medical help from the Doctor, but he gets a thorough
lesson in the body's defence mechanisms anyway.

nobility.
A Thirty-Minute Hamlet

Outline Hamlet, the Danish prince, finds himself haunted by his father's ghost. The ghost confirms that he was murdered by his brother,

A Thirty-Minute Julius Caesar

Outline Fresh from military conquests, Caesar returns to Rome in triumph. His friend, Mark Antony, offers him a crown. The Roman senate

conspiracy against Caesar, leading to his murder on the Ides of March and setting up a confrontation between Caesar's supporters and
the conspirators.

Outline The Duke of Vienna is about to go abroad, leaving the governance of the city to Angelo, a stern judge. Angelo's rule turns out to be
much stricter than the Duke's, and he sentences Claudio, a young nobleman, to death. Angelo has designs on Claudio's sister, but she
rejects his advances, apparently sealing Claudio's fate. However, the Duke returns in disguise and, through a series of tricks, exposes
Angelo's hypocracy.
A Thirty-Minute Much Ado

Outline Don Pedro, prince of Arragon comes sweeping into town - along with his wayward brother, Don John, who is bent on making mischief.
He finds his opportunity when he seeks to spoil the romance between Claudio (one of the Prince's knights) and Hero, the daughter of
their host. Meanwhile, Claudio and Hero try to kindle a romance between Hero's cousin Beatrice and Claudio's friend Benedick, who
everyone thinks made for each other - if they can ever get beyond their endless verbal sparring.

Outline Two households, both alike in dignity,

So the Montagues and Capulets are at each other's throats, but the Montague's son and Capulet's daughter, meet, fall in love and pledge
to be married in secret. Things begin to fall apart when Tybalt, a hot-headed Capulet, picks a fight. Romeo intervenes to calm things
down, but this only results in Tybalt killing Romeo's kinsman and Romeo killing Tybalt. Further sorrow follows not far behind.
A tragic love story, with an awful lot of fighting.
A Thirty-Minute Taming of the Shrew

Outline A lord wishes his daughters to be married. Bianca is young and beautiful and already has many suitors, but Katherina is strong-willed,
hot-tempered and uncontrollable. Their father decrees that Bianca may only take a husband once Katherina is married. Lucentio and his
friend Petruchio arrive, and Petruchio is convinced to marry Katherina for her money to allow Lucentio to wed Bianca. However,
Lucentio finds his marriage to Bianca is not as idyllic as he would like, whilst Petruchio bends the shrew-like Katherina to his will.

Outline Prospero, the exiled duke of Milan, has raised his daughter Miranda alone on an island with nobody else around but Caliban, a

Prospero aims to awe the noblemen, reassert his right to the throne of Milan, and find a match for his daughter.
A Train Ride Away

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The body count rises as Hamlet closes in on the evil Claudius. Will justice be done? Will our hero
triumph? Will he ever answer that question?

Emperor's girlfriend, the ultra-glamorous and even more ultra-temperamental Queen Cleopatra of Egypt. It is imperative that the
Emperor's stay goes perfectly. It doesn't.

daughter, Miranda, survives the wreck and finds himself on a desert island. From there he uses his magic powers to gain revenge on
Antonio and Alonso, King of Naples, who is unwittingly supporting Antonio under the influence of his own unscrupulous brother,
Sebastian. With the principals all gathered on the same island, Prospero sets out to divide and conquer, a task somewhat hindered by the
presence of a range of bizarre and possibly deranged supporting characters.

tries to think of a solution, the situation is rescued by Cat, returning from an interesting excursion to foreign parts and now armed with
special powers, those of the mystic phenomenon known as the Tsobaki!

yourselves...] Brilliant designer Daedalus, assisted by his son Icarus, is enlisted to construct the labyrinth but when Daedalus finds that
King Minos is inclined to imprison him too, he realises that his next design must be for a means of escape. Icarus is less than enthusiastic
about the method chosen. Perhaps he sees a Greek tragedy on the cards.
