1. What is a law?

A law is it is a set of rules that govern a society and these laws help maintain their
peace. In a general sense, it is the whole body or system of law. In a concrete sense, a
law is a rule of conduct made and made obligatory by the state. (Agpalo, pg 1)

2. What is rule of law?


It is a principle where the institutions, persons and entities of society are held liable to
laws that are publicly promulgated, equally enforced and independently adjudicated
(DOJ, Development forum). These said laws are consistent with international human
rights norms.

3. What is jurisprudence?
Jurisprudence is a theoretical study of law which consists of the decisions of the
Supreme court and are binding on all other courts. In the Philippines, we have the
doctrine of stare decisive, where the rulings of the Supreme court, until reversed
become binding on lower courts. (Agpalo,Pg 139)

4. What are the sources of law?


In the Philippines, the sources of law are the (1)Constitution,(2) Administrative or
general orders not contrary to the constitution, (3) Statutes, laws, presidential decrees,
executive orders, or batas pambansa, (4) Jurisprudence and judicial customs (doctrine
of stare decisis)
