    This is to give a general idea of how to repair the old gaskets in the Heater Control Valve

    of the E39 and other models with the corresponding OEM Numbers 8369462, 8374994,
    8374995, 8372004. This was made for the simple Do-It-Yourself version. A full
    rebuild/refurbish focuses more on the condition of the solenoids which is not recommended for
    the simple DIY. This is a delicate item, please take your time and handle each part with care.
    Tools needed:

    T10 Drive, Flathead Screwdriver, Needle Nose Pliers, Patience

    First, remove the six T10 screws on the top of the


    heater control valve.

    With a small
    screwdriver, pry
    between the body
    (plastic) and the
    bottom of the
    plate.

    You should see something like this.

    Scrape off the remaining gaskets completely and


    remove the stems.

    GENTLY, separate the plate from the solenoids.

    Pull the plate off. Drain any fluid still in the


    solenoid and clean up the parts.

    Remove the old O-Rings

    Choose the larger of the two new O-Rings


    from the kit to replace with.

    *Remember to clean up your parts as you go

    Using a pair of needle nose pliers, pull out
    the inner sleeve. This is a delicate item and
    can be damaged easily. Take your time and
    be patient.

    Remove the gasket inside.

    Once everything is removed, clean the body
    thoroughly.

    Place the new gaskets face up. Notice


    the one on the left is up, the gasket on
    the right is facing down.

    Insert the sleeves. The sleeve on the left


    should seat into the gasket perfectly.
    The sleeve on the right is facing up and
    is all you will see after inserted.

    Now piece back together the
    solenoids and place the plate back
    on top.

    Put on the new gasket onto the


    plate.

    Insert the pins. It is ok if they are


    loose, once the solenoid is
    engaged, they will rest tightly
    against the inlet and completely
    seal off flow as it should.

    Place the body back onto the
    solenoids snugly and replace
    the sex T10 screws.

    If your heater control valve is equipped with an electric motor, please move on to
    the next steps. If it is not equipped with an electric motor, clean the exterior of the
    heater control valve and you are complete!

    Heater Control Valve Motor

    Remove the belt holding the


    motor to the heater control
    valve. Slide the belt off and
    move it to the side.

    Remove the four T10 screws around the
    motor.

    The large O-Ring can be


    either round the case or
    turbine side.

    Be careful not to drop any


    washers attached to the
    turbine.

    Remove the old O-Ring.

    Place new O-Ring around


    turbine side and place back
    together. Insert the four T10
    screws and replace the belt.

    Once complete, clean up unit.
