Course Description:

This course deals with the interactions between science and technology as it relates to social, cultural, political,
economic and environmental contexts. This includes an exploration of the past, present and future of science and
technology with special focus on the Philippines.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the students must be able to:

Cognitive:

1. Develop the ability to analyze/ solve problems critically and think innovatively and creatively;
2. Make informed decisions regarding societal issues;
3. Interpret relevant scientific data and make judgements that include reflection on ethical issues.

Psychomotor:

1. Participate in activities towards attainment of environmental and societal sustainability;


2. Perform online searches on the impact of social media on a student’s life and the Philippines in general.

Affective:
1. Discover one’s roles in responding to the needs of society;
2. Appreciate the limitations and implications of science and technology in everyday life.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must log-in by video or voice call once a week.


2. Comply an activity once a week.
3. Must take an online quiz.
4. Must take an online exam.

GRADING SYSTEM: (Midterm + Tentative Final)/2


A. Grade per period
Cut-off Mark : 60 – 40

1. Class Standing:2/3

3. Grade per grading: (Class Standing) 2/3 + (Long Exam) 1/3 = % Grade
Numerical Grade Equivalent = (Grade – 110)/10

Midterm Grade + Tentative Final Grade = Final Grade 85 + 75 =160 /2 =80

* Grades will be in percent form and converted to numerical grade. 110-80=30 /10=3.0

Class Rules

1. Attendance
Attendance by online means, that at least once a week the student must have a direct contact with the
instructor via video or voice call. This will make sure that whatever activities, lectures, and evaluations
given, are clearly stated to the students. As much as possible synchronous classes will be conducted.

2. Quizzes
a. Quipper or Google classroom will be the avenue for quizzes.
b. The quiz allotted for once a week must be taken within the week.
c. No special quizzes will be given for students who missed the quiz within the week.

3. Online Activities
a. Online Activities are given once a week and can be done anytime as long as within the period of
midterm or period of finals.
b. Special quiz must be taken before the scheduled exam or within the week whichever is sooner.

4. Exams
a. There will be four exams given for a semester; prelim, midterm, prefinals and finals.
b. Students will be given one day to answer the exam.
c. Students who are not able to take the exam in the given time frame can take the exam providing
a valid reason.
d. Special exams will be given within 5 working days after the original schedule of the exam.
