TECHNICAL DETAILS
You will be using Google Slides to put your presentation together and Screencastify to deliver it to
your peers and teacher. Here’s a walkthrough of the process:

1. Do your research! (See the Recommended sources at the end of this document)
2. Select the pieces of information you want to include and the visual materials you want to
include (photos, maps, very short videos, music, etc.)
3. Make sure you have about 3 interesting facts to organize your presentation around.
4. Prepare your speech. You can write this down and rehearse it, but you MUST NOT read it
aloud during your presentation.
5. Time yourself. Your presentation should not last more than 3 to 4 minutes. As a rough
estimate, the average person speaks about 125-150 words per minute, which means your
presentation text should be no longer than 600 words.
6. Create your slides in Google Slides.
7. Add Screencastify to your Chrome browser. It only works with Chrome, so make sure that
is what you are using. Find Screencastify here.
8. Open your slide deck and start presenting the deck in "Presenter view" (be sure to click the
arrow next to the "Present" button)
9. Start a browser tab recording. In order for your audience to hear and see you, choose to
turn on "Microphone" a
 nd "Embed webcam". C
heck out this info to see how you do this step
by step. This video is also helpful.
10. Don’t worry, you’ll have it down to a fine art in a few minutes!
