THE POTENTIAL DONOR
Age: 16 to 65 years old
Weight: At least 110 lbs (50kgs)
Pulse Rate: Between 60 and 100 beats/min

with a regular rhythm
Blood Pressure: winin normal limis
Hemoglobin: at least 125 g/l

Approach donating with a positive attitude
and know that you’ve done something
worthwhile.

You don’t really have to worry. You will be
checked before you even donate. If your
hemoglobin is low, you will be temporarily
deferred but you can always come back and try
again.

the adult population is eligible, only about 7%

donating. All needles and other supplies are
sterile and disposable.

BLOOD DONATION
PROCESS
PREPARATION BEFORE BLOOD DONATION
• Have enough rest and sleep
• Eat light meals only, avoid fatty foods
• Drink plenty of fluids like water and juice
• No medications for at least 24 hours

REGISTRATION
Register and fill out a form. This

form shall be kept on file for
reference and information
purposes in our blood collection
center.
MEDICAL SCREENING
Blood Bank physician will review the

questionnaire and asks more questions
if needed. The doctor will examine the
donor, check weight, pulse and blood
pressure. This is to ensure that the donor
feel well and can safely donate blood.
BLOOD TEST
blood sample will be taken from

the donor to check the blood type
and hemoglobin level.
BLOOD COLLECTION
It will take only 5-10 mins. to actually give

blood. A pint of blood will be extracted. This
volume will be replenished in the body with
in 3-5 hrs. with the advise to take more fluids.
POST DONATION PERIOD
The Donor will be given some refreshments while

resting. NO special food is required.
WHAT TO DO AFTER BLOOD DONATION?
Rest for about 5 to 10 minutes.
Drink plenty of

body within 24-72 hours with sufficient intake
of fluids
