Start By:
A. Remove the radiator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator - Remove".
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses
and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection,
maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools
and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Turn the battery disconnect switch into the OFF position.
2. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil
and Filter - Change".
3. Drain the hydraulic oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual,
"Hydraulic System Oil - Change".

4. Raise the bed. Install Tooling (A) under the frame of the bed, as shown. This will help balance the machine when the engine is
removed.
5. Disconnect cable assembly (1) and remove clip (2). Place cable assembly (1) to the side.
6. Disconnect hose assemblies (3), (4), and (5).
7. Remove clip (6) .
8. Remove guard (7) and belt (8). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".
9. Disconnect three harness assemblies (9) for refrigerant compressor (11). Remove bracket (10). Remove bolts (12) and place
refrigerant compressor (11) to the side.
10. Disconnect cable assembly (13) from the electric starting motor.
11. Loosen clamp (15) and disconnect tube (14) for the air cleaner.
12. Remove clamp (18). Remove clamp (17) and disconnect tube (16) for the air cleaner.
13. Disconnect clamps (19) and (20). Remove tubes (14) and (16) .
14. Disconnect tube (21) from the air filter service indicator.
15. Disconnect harness assembly (22) that is located behind the air filter service indicator.
16. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to air cleaner assemblies (23). The weight of air cleaner assemblies (23) is
approximately 113 kg (250 lb). Remove bolts (24) and air cleaner assemblies (23) .
17. Remove clamps (25) and (26) from each turbocharger.
18. Remove bolts (27) .
19. Attach a suitable lifting device to the muffler and exhaust system (28). The combined weight of the muffler and exhaust
system (28) is approximately 88 kg (195 lb). Remove bolts (29) and the muffler and exhaust system (28) .
20. Disconnect hose assembly (30) that is located in front of the left rear engine mount.

21. Disconnect hose assemblies (31), (32), and (33) .
22. Disconnect hose assemblies (34), (35), (36), (37), and (38) .
23. Disconnect hose assemblies (39) and (40) that are located above the right rear engine mount.
24. Disconnect hose assembly (42) and remove clip (41) .
25. Remove tube (43) and disconnect hose assembly (44) .
26. Disconnect hose assemblies (45). Disconnect tube assembly (46) .
27. Disconnect harness assembly (47) and remove cover (48) .
28. Attach a suitable lifting device to the front of drive shaft (49). The weight of the front of drive shaft (49) is approximately 32
kg (70 lb). Remove bolts (50) and place drive shaft (49) onto suitable cribbing.
29. Disconnect tube assembly (51) .
30. Loosen clamp (52) and pivot tube assembly (51) downward.
31. Disconnect hose assemblies (53), (54), and (55) .
32. Disconnect hose assemblies (56), (57) and (58) .
33. Remove clamp (59) .
34. Remove bracket (60) .
35. Disconnect hose assemblies (61) and (62) .
36. Disconnect ground cable (63) .
37. Disconnect hose assembly (64) .
38. Disconnect tube assembly (65) that is located on the lower front right side of the engine.
39. Disconnect tube assembly (67) and hose assemblies (66) that are located on lower front right side of the engine.
41. Disconnect hose (69) that is located on the lower front side of the engine.
42. Remove clips (70) and (73). Place hose assemblies (71) and (72) onto the engine.
43. Disconnect hose (74) that is located on the right front side of the engine.
44. Remove clip (76). Disconnect hose assemblies (75) and (77). Disconnect cable assembly (78) .
45. Disconnect hose assemblies (80) and hoses (81). Disconnect harness assemblies (79). Remove clips (82) and (83) .
46. Disconnect harness assembly (84) that is located near the front left tire. Remove clips (85) .
47. Disconnect harness assembly (86) that is located near the front left tire. Remove clips (87) .
48. Disconnect harness assembly (88) and remove clip (89) .
49. Disconnect harness assembly (90) and place the light to the side.
50. Remove cable straps (91) and clamps (92) .
51. Disconnect harness assemblies (93), (94), (95), and (96) .
52. Disconnect heater hoses (97) and (98) .
53. Disconnect hose assembly (99) and remove clamp (100) that is located under the cab near the left front tire.
55. Remove bolts (102) from solenoid valve (103) that is located on the right side of the engine. Place solenoid valve (103) to the
side.
56. Remove cover (104) .
57. Remove tube assembly (105) .
58. Disconnect tube assembly (106) that is located on the left side of the engine.
59. Place Tooling (C) under the front frame of the machine, as shown. Tooling (C) is necessary in order to support the machine
when tube assembly (109) is removed.
60. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to tube assembly (109). The weight of tube assembly (109) is approximately
68 kg (150 lb). Remove bolts (107) from each side of tube assembly (109). Remove tube assembly (109). Remove any shims
(108) that are present. Note the location of shims (108) .
61. Remove drain valve (110) for the engine oil.
62. Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to engine (111) and the torque converter. The combined weight of engine
(111) and the torque converter is approximately 4445 kg (9800 lb).
63. Remove bolts (112) and cap (113) from the rear of the engine. Repeat for the other side.
64. Remove front engine mount bolts (114) .
65. Remove engine (111) and the torque converter.

A. Remove the radiator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator - Remove".

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Turn the battery disconnect switch into the OFF position.

6. Disconnect hose assemblies (3), (4), and (5).

7. Remove clip (6) .

17. Remove clamps (25) and (26) from each turbocharger.

18. Remove bolts (27) .

21. Disconnect hose assemblies (31), (32), and (33) .

24. Disconnect hose assembly (42) and remove clip (41) .

25. Remove tube (43) and disconnect hose assembly (44) .

26. Disconnect hose assemblies (45). Disconnect tube assembly (46) .

27. Disconnect harness assembly (47) and remove cover (48) .

29. Disconnect tube assembly (51) .

31. Disconnect hose assemblies (53), (54), and (55) .

32. Disconnect hose assemblies (56), (57) and (58) .

33. Remove clamp (59) .

34. Remove bracket (60) .

35. Disconnect hose assemblies (61) and (62) .

36. Disconnect ground cable (63) .

37. Disconnect hose assembly (64) .

40. Disconnect hose assembly (68) .

48. Disconnect harness assembly (88) and remove clip (89) .

50. Remove cable straps (91) and clamps (92) .

51. Disconnect harness assemblies (93), (94), (95), and (96) .

52. Disconnect heater hoses (97) and (98) .

54. Disconnect hose assembly (101) .

56. Remove cover (104) .

57. Remove tube assembly (105) .

61. Remove drain valve (110) for the engine oil.

64. Remove front engine mount bolts (114) .

65. Remove engine (111) and the torque converter.
