The document outlines a mathematics lesson plan on deriving the formula for finding the area of a circle. The objectives are to identify the radius and diameter of a circle and derive the formula. The lesson will include reviewing the area of a rectangle, watching a video on how the area of a circle formula was derived, deriving the formula that the area of a circle is πr^2, and an activity measuring the area of cut-out circles. Students will then evaluate statements on the formula.

Mathematics V 12:30 – 1:20 V – Apo 1:20 – 2:10 V – Banahaw 5:30 – 6:20 V – Mayon I. Objectives A. Identifies the radius and diameter of a circle B. Derives the formula in finding the area of a circle C. Accuracy II. Subject Matter Deriving the Formula in Finding the Area of a Circle III. Learning Resources A. Math V Learning Assurance Mapping Project V3 Learning Competency 82 M5ME – IVa – 82 B. 21st Century Mathletes 5 a. Teachers’ Manual pp. 114 – 115 b. Textbook pp. 302 – 304 C. Charts, flash cards, IV. Procedure A. 1) Drill Drill on the different parts of a circle. 2) Review Review on the formula for finding the area of a rectangle. B. 1) Activity How many square units or how big is the space occupied by this circle? Is our measurement accurate? Why? How can we measure the exact area of a circle? Have them watch a video clip about the formula for finding the area of a circle and where it came from. 2) Analysis a. What plane figure resembled the cut circle? b. What part of the circle does the height of the rectangle represent? c. What is the equivalent of the base when it comes to circle? d. Why is it important to have a formula in finding the area of a circle? 3) Abstraction What formula can we use to find the area of a circle? 4) Application Provide each group with a cutout of a circle. Have them measure its radius. If you are to form a parallelogram from your circle, what would be its height? Does the parallelogram formed have the same area with your circle? Show or illustrate your solution to support your answer. Note: if you are going to cut the circle, the pieces should be of the same sizes. 5) Evaluation Read the following statements. Write YES if the statement is true. Write NO if the statement is false. 1. The formula for finding the area of a circle can be derived using the base and height of a rectangle. 2. In deriving the formula for finding the area of a circle, the radius of the circle is also the base of the rectangle. 3. The formula for finding the area of a circle is pi×r×r or πr². 4. The diameter of the circle corresponds to the height of the rectangle when deriving the formula for finding the area of a circle. 5. The base of the rectangle is half of the circumference of the circle.
