Guidelines:

___________________________________
1. It is required to connect the external +24V 4-PIN DC DIN plug according to the above pin
layout. I have attached information on the required external plug (as an example Kycon KPJ
___________________________________
plug, alternative sources can be used). The mechanical drawing of SEII IP board
socket/connector is also attached (file KPJX-4S-S).
2.___________________________________
If you want to use the SkyEdgeI 24v desktop power supply then you will need to adjust
the DC output plug (SkyEdgeI PS has 2.1mm DC plug and SkyEdgeII has 4 PIN DC DIN
___________________________________
plug).
3.___________________________________
You can use SE1 IP power supply by connecting it to an opposite appropriate board
connector (for example kycon KLD-SMT-0202 connector, attached is the datasheet) and
___________________________________
wring the board connector to the 4-pin plug (from item1). That way you will not need to
modify the SEI power supply.
4.___________________________________
Alternatively you can cut the DC plug from SEI IP power supply and connect the two
___________________________________
wires to the 4-pin plug according to the above pin layout.
5. Important: before plugging in the 4-pin plug to SEII VSAT make sure that the polarity is
___________________________________
correct according to the above pin layout (use volt meter to assure that). The VSAT will be
damaged if 24V polarity is opposite.

VSAT Synchronization
Program Counter Reference - PCR
PCR enables synchronization of all receivers in a network to a common
clock rate and time reference.
The PCR extraction is used for time and frequency synchronization, using
DVB-RCS standard mechanisms
Program Counter Reference (PCR) is a standard mechanism in MPEG
based video broadcasting, knowing as NCR (Network Clock Reference).

___________________________________
Usually in broadcast systems, an MPEG encoder generates the PCR. When the TS
___________________________________
packets pass the DVB-MUX it may introduce variable delay due to the statistical nature of
the MUX. This variable delay, when introduced to the PCR packets, will cause jitter to the
___________________________________
regenerated clock at the receiving end. In order to mitigate this, the DVB-MUX performs
time re-stamping of the clock value in the PCR packets, based on internal clock at the DVB-
___________________________________
MUX. The components of the system along the transmission stream after the DVB-MUX
are considered to have constant delay – Modulator, RF equipment, Satellite, receiving

terminal front end. The specification of the PCR frequency accuracy in regular broadcast
systems is 50 ppm, and practical systems have ~30 ppm PCR accuracy.

VSAT Synchronization
Program Counter Reference – PCR (cont’d)

Very accurate clock of 27 MHz (used in digital video), generated in the

Modulator.
Count values of the clock are broadcast to the VSATs.
The PCR is used for:
Carrier synchronisation (Frequency)
Return-burst synchronization (Timing)
Symbol clock synchronization

BUC Types
Dual Mode
In Dual BUC the HPA can work either in saturated or Linear modes.
Mode of operation is determined by the presence of 10Mhz to the BUC.
Dual Mode C-Band series - working without spectral inversion:
Output power is defined as 2W / 3W
2W in Linear mode
3W in Saturated mode
Different LO frequency - “non inverted” spectrum
LO (C-Band) = 4.9 GHz
LO (Ext C-Band) = 5.75 GHz
LO (C-Palapa)= 5.29 GHz
Dual Mode KU-Band series:
Output power is defined as 1W / 2W or 2W / 4W
