Akshaya Tritiya Pastimes
Akshaya Tritiya Pastimes
pakṣa-tṛtīyā) :
The word "akṣaya" means never diminishing. Hence the benefits of doing any japa,
kirtana, puja, yagna (sacrifice), snana (bathing), pitra-tarpan (offering water to
departed souls), dan-punya (charitable donations), etc. on this day never diminish
and remain with the person forever. The Vedas say that knowledge gained or
charity performed on Akṣaya-tṛtīyā will forever increase. The word "tṛtīyā" refers
to the third day after the new moon in the month of Vaiśākha. This day is ruled by
Lord Viṣṇu.
"According to Vedic scriptures, there are certain astrological combinations that
favor the beginning of new projects and some astrological influences inhibit the
success of the new initiatives or projects that we may begin. Akṣaya-tṛtīyā is the
most favored day as this particular day has no inauspicious or inhibiting factor
within it."
