On 14/12/2018 samples of sand (FINYA SAND), and Coarse aggregates

(GRANITE) were received and tested for the preparation of concrete mix design

2.0 TESTS PERFORMED TO DETERMINE THE MATERIALS SUITABILITY FOR CONCRETE

The following tests were performed on the material submitted to investigate

their suitability for use in concrete.
a) Organic impurities ( sand)
b) clay and silt (tested on sand)
c) Water absorption (sand and c/aggregates)
d) Bulk Density (sand and c/aggregates)
e) Gross Density (sand and c/aggregates)
f) Aggregates Impact value ( C/aggregates)
g) Aggregates crushing value (C/Aggregates)
h) Sieve Tests (sand and C/aggregates)

2.01 TEST RESULTS

The results for the tests above are reported in table 1a, table 1b below
indicates the limitation of the results from table 1a. the results for
sieve test are indicated on table 2.

3.0 MIX DESIGN AND TRIAL MIX

The task is to design concrete Grade 40 air pore content was assumed to be
2.0% of the total volume of concrete.
To produce a concrete with MEDIUM workability assuming a slump of 30-80 mm.
and the mix proportions are to be given by weight.

pg 3 of 11

3.01 CEMENT AND WATER

TWIGA PLC CEM I I/B-L/42.5 N and tap water from Tap water were used for
mixing the concrete.

4.0 MIX PROPORTION (1m3)

From the mix design calculations on page 5 of 11, the proportions of ingredients
per cubic meter are as shown below
