Off with the Old and On with the New

For in Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And you are
complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power: In

whom also you are circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the

circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also

you are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath
raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the
uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having
forgiven you all trespasses.
Colossians 2:9-13

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man,
which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts . . .

Christ.

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not

provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has

covered me with the robe of righteousness . . .

The Mystery Hidden For Ages and Generations

Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the

preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery

kept secret since the world began but now made manifest, and by the
prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the
commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith.
Romans 16:25-26

. . . by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the

mystery of Christ), which in other ages was not made known to

the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy
apostles and prophets . . .
Ephesians 3:4-5

6
. . . I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was

given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which
has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been
revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the

riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ

in you, the hope of glory.

Colossians 1:26-27

God’s After Your Body

It’s not just you “in Christ” but “Christ in you”

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God
dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which
is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are
bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit,
which are God's.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

For you are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in
them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my
people.
2 Corinthians 6:16b

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens

with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the

chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together
grows unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom you also are
builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
7
Ephesians 2:11-22

In Order to Reveal His Person

. . . Whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to

the image of His Son . . .
Romans 8:29

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive . . . And as

we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear
the image of the heavenly Man.
1 Corinthians 15:22,49

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the

Lord, are
being transformed into the same image
from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:18

Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his
deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge

according to the image of Him who created him.

66. We will be given the Spirit, we will receive the promise of the Spirit through faith, and
will be sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise (1 John 4:13, Galatians 3:14, Ephesians 1:13)
We will know His Great Mystery that has been hidden for ages and generations We will
know His Great Mystery that has been hidden for ages and generations.

By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us,

because He has given us of His Spirit.

1 John 4:13

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse
for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree" ), that

the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ

Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit
through faith.

Galatians 3:13-14

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel
of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed
with the Holy Spirit of promise.

Ephesians 1:13

Baptism

Or do you not know that as

many of us as were baptized
into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just

as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even
so
we also should walk in newness of life. For if we
have been united together in the likeness of His
death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of
His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified
with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no
longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we

shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been
raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over
Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life

that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise

you also, reckon
yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to
God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:3-11

In Christ - Appendix
A New Testament Scriptural Overview of being “In Christ”

The Gospel of John

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him,
bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

The Book of Acts

. . . For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some
of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'

Acts 17:28

The Epistle to the Romans

being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in

Christ Jesus . . . Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead

indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord . . . For the
wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ
15
Jesus our Lord . . .There is therefore now no condemnation to those
who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh,
but according to the Spirit . . . For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ
Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death . . . For I am
persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor
powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor
any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God

which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 3:24; 6:11,23; 8:1-2,38-39

The First Epistle the Corinthians

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in

Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on
the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours . . . But of Him

you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God--and
righteousness and sanctification and redemption . . . For this reason I have
sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who

will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every

church . . . For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all
shall be made alive . . . I affirm, by the boasting in you which I
have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

1 Corinthians 1:2,30; 4:17; 15:22,31

16
The Second Epistle to the Corinthians

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us--by

me, Silvanus, and Timothy--was not Yes and No, but in Him was
Yes . . . For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him
Amen, to the glory of God through us . . . Now He who establishes us with

you in Christ and has anointed us is God . . . Now thanks be to God

who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the
fragrance of His knowledge in every place . . . But their minds (the
unbelieving Jews) were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains

unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is

taken away in Christ . . .Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have
become new . . . For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that

we might become the righteousness of God in Him . . . But I fear, lest

somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds

may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ . . . For though

He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we

also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God
toward you.

2 Corinthians 1:19-21; 2:14; 3:14; 5:17,21; 11:3; 13:4

The Epistle to the Galatians

17
Yet not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be
circumcised . . . And this occurred because of false brethren secretly
brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have

in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage) . . . knowing

that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus

Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be

justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for
by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified . . . that the blessing of

Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we

might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith . . . And this I say,
that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul

the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it

should make the promise of no effect . . . For you are all sons of God

through faith in Christ Jesus . . . There is neither Jew nor Greek,

there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are

all one in Christ Jesus . . . For in Christ Jesus neither

circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working

through love . . . For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor

uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.

Galatians 2:3-4,16; 3:14,17,26,28; 5:6; 6:15

The Epistle to the Ephesians

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed

us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ . . .

18
just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we
should be holy and without blame before Him in love . . . In Him we
have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to
the riches of His grace . . . that in the dispensation of the fullness of the

times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which
are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him . . . In Him also we
have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose

of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will . . . In

Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of
your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with
the Holy Spirit of promise . . . (the exceeding greatness of his power

toward us) which He (God) worked in Christ when He raised Him

from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places . . .
and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places

in Christ Jesus . . . that in the ages to come He might show the

exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ
Jesus . . . For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for
good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in

them . . . But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have
been brought near by the blood of Christ . . . in whom the whole
building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the
Lord . . . in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling
place of God in the Spirit . . . that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of

the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the

19
gospel . . . in whom we have boldness and access with confidence
through faith in Him . . . And be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 1:3-4,7,10-11,13,20; 2:6-7,10,13,21-22; 3:6,12; 4:32

The Epistle to the Philippians

For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice
in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh . . .Yet indeed I
also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ
Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count

them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not
having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is

through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by

faith . . . I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in

Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:3,8-9,14

The Epistle to the Colossians

To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse: Grace
to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ . . . in

whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of

20
sins . . . And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist . . .
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should
dwell . . .Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in

all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ

Jesus . . . in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and
knowledge . . . For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in
spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith

in Christ. As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so

walk in Him rooted and built up in Him and established in the
faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. For in

Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are
complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision
of Christ,

Colossians 1:2,14,17,19,28; 2:3,5-11

The Apostle Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the

promise of life which is in Christ Jesus . . . who has saved us and

called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to

His own purpose and grace which was given to us in

Christ Jesus before time began . . . Hold fast the pattern of sound
21
words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in

Christ Jesus . . .You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is

in Christ Jesus . . . Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the
elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ
Jesus with eternal glory . . . Yes, and all who desire to live godly in
Christ Jesus will suffer persecution . . . and that from childhood you
have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for

salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:1,9,13; 2:1,10,12,15

The First Epistle of John

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you,

that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all . . . But whoever

keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we

know that we are in Him, He who says he abides in Him ought

himself also to walk just as He walked . . . And now, little children, abide

in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be

ashamed before Him at His coming . . . And everyone who has this hope

in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure . . . And you know that He

was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no
sin . . .Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither
seen Him nor known Him . . . Whoever has been born of God does not sin,
for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born

of God . . . Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and
He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom

He has given us . . . By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in

us, because He has given us of His Spirit . . . Whoever confesses that Jesus

is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God . . . And we have
known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who

abides in love abides in God, and God in him . . . Now this is the
confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to
His will, He hears us . . . And we know that the Son of God has come and
has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and

we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is

the true God and eternal life.
