Empowerment Technology

Week(s) 13-14
Topic/Lesson Developing an ICT Project for Social Change.
Content Standards The learner demonstrates an understanding of:

1. How to work with peers and external publics/partners


for the development of an ICT project that advocates
or mobilizes for a specific Social Change or cause.

Performance Standards The learners:

At the near end of the 2-week period collaboratively


participate active in the creation and development of an ICT
Project for Social Change relating to an issue in specific
professional tracks.
Learning Competencies The learners:

1. Identify a local or regional cause or issue for social


change related to specific professional tracks that can
be addressed or tackled using an ICT project for
Social Change.
2. Analyse how target or intended users and audiences
are expected to respond to the proposed ICT project
for Social Change on the basis of content, value, and
user experience.
3. Integrate rich multimedia content in design and
development to best enhance the user experience and
deliver content of an ICT Project for Social Change.
4. Develop a working prototype of an ICT Project for
Social Change
Time Allotment 4 hours and 30 minutes / 270 minutes
Teaching Strategy Discussion, Oral Recitation, On-site research, Hands-on
Activity

LESSON OUTLINE

I- Introduction The instructor will call someone to lead the opening prayer,
greet the students, check them in regards to their personal
stuff last weekends, and after checking their state of mind,
and to make sure that their focus is in the class, there will be
a brief summary or recap of the last topic.

II- Motivation The instructor will conduct a pre-test to the students:

I – Enumerate five things that should be accomplished or


considered during the planning stage of an ICT project.

II – Arrange the following steps in order using the numbers


1 – 4. Write X if the step is not part of the process.

Release and Promotion, Development, Maintenance,


Coding, Planning
III- Instruction/ Delivery Developing an ICT Project for Social Change:
Creating a Concept Paper:

A concept paper is a document used to convince a panel of


potential funders to help a product, program, or service
becomes a reality.

Five Elements of a Concept Paper:

1. Introduction – includes your group’s mission and


vision with a brief introduction of your project.
2. Purpose – includes the reasons why this project is
worth your group and your sponsor’s time, effort and
money.
3. Description – includes all the necessary information
about the project. In ICT, it involves the sites you are
going to produce and the purpose of each and how
they work in unison.
4. Support – contains the budget needed for the
project. Some concept papers do not specify any
amount requested from the sponsor.
5. Contact Information – includes information on how
the group can be contacted.

(Note: The instructor will then give sample to the students


about concept paper)

Your project campaign must met the SMART criteria:

S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Attainable
R – Realistic
T – Time-bound(ed)

ICT Project Process:

Planning – involves the following tasks:

1. Conceptualizing your project


2. Researching on available data about your topic
3. Setting deadlines and meetings
4. Assigning people to various tasks
5. Finding a web or blog host
6. Creating a site map for your website
7. Listing down all applications that you need including
web apps
8. Funding (if applicable)

Development – involves the actual creation of the


website(s); involves the production of images, infographics,
etc.

Release and Promotion – involves the actual release of the


website/page for public view and promoting it. Promotion
typically starts before the actual release.

Maintenance – it involves responding to feedback of your


site visitors and continuing to improve the website.

As you manage your page, you will encounter different


behaviors of people in SocMed. According to Rebecca Dye,
a SocMed manager at First Direct, there are 12 different
behaviors in SocMed:

1. The Ultras
2. The Deniers
3. The Virgins
4. The Peacocks
5. The Lurkers
6. The Ranters
7. The Changelings
8. The Ghosts
9. The Informers
10. The Approval Seekers
11. The Quizzers
12. The Dippers

(Note: The instructor will explain the 12 diff. behaviors in


the session)
IV- Practice Week 13: Group Activity

1. The class will form a group with at least 5 members.


2. Each group must create a concept paper.
3. Topics of the concept paper will be given.
4. The instructor will act as the panel (the ones to be
convinced).
5. The Activity: On a manila paper, write the 5
elements of your concept paper.
6. Each group are only given 20 minutes to do the given
task.
7. At the end of the given time, each group will select 2
representatives to present their output.

Rubrics:

Persuasiveness – 40%
Content – 40%
Overall presentation – 20%
Total – 100%

Topics for the Concept Paper:

1. Animal Cruelty
2. Energy Insufficiency
3. Human Rights Violation
4. Premarital Sex and Early Pregnancy
5. Drug Addiction
6. Population Explosion
7. Extrajudicial Killings/Criminal Injustice
8. Women Empowerment
V- Enrichment The instructor, then, will ask the students how they
understood the topic, the importance of the topic, and the
relevance of the topic in their daily lives.
VI- Evaluation At the end of the 2-week period, the instructor will ask the
students to collaboratively participate active in the creation
and development of an ICT Project for Social Change
relating to an issue in specific professional tracks.

The instructor will also conduct an activity for the students to independently assess one’s
experience along a range of online rich content on the basis of the usability of the interface.

Week 12
The instructor will also conduct an activity for the students to help them understand further
the topic, and will be assessed by independently apply advanced productivity tools to
create or develop ICT content for use in specific professional tracks.
