Interfacial Electrochemical Techniques (static, dynamics)

 Electrochemistry is the study of structures and processes at the interface

between an electron conductor which is the (electrode) an ionic conductor
which is the (electrolyte) or at the interface between two electrolytes.

 By Interface we donate those regions of the two adjoining phases whose

properties significantly from those of the bulk. These interfacial regions can
be quite extended, particularly in those cases where a metal or
semiconducting electrode is covered by a thin film or an adsorbate layers.

 A few important types of electrochemical interfaces, (metal/electrolyte,

alloy/electrolyte, semiconductor/electrolyte, two immiscible liquids of
contact). The electrode (substrate) has been modified by disposition of
different adsorbates, nanoparticles, nanotubes, functionalized self-
assembled monalayer.

Structure of metal solution interface

The metal-solution interface

 To gain an impression of the structures and reactions that occur in
electrochemical systems, we consider the interface between a metal
and an electrolyte solution.
- This subject electrochemistry that has something to do between electricity and
chemistry. Specifically, electrochemistry is about the relationship of chemical
reactions and electricity.

There are two ways, the chemical reactions and electricity interact.

- The first is, certain chemical reactions can create electricity. And that is what
going on in a battery, there are chemicals inside the battery they react
together to make a chemical reaction.

- The second is; electricity can make certain chemical reactions happen that
wouldn’t happen.
Electricity in simple term is about movement of electrons (through wire or
battery).

Oxidation Reduction Reactions, this chemical reaction where electrons move

between atoms.

Ex: A electron B
For the first thing:
- We can use electrons moving between the atoms in oxidation reduction
reaction to make electricity. If the electrons the electrons are moving
there is electricity.
For the 2nd thing:
- We can use electricity to force electrons to move between atoms to
make oxidation reduction reaction happen.

How does it work?

For the first thing:
- We’ve got oxidation reduction reaction where electrons are moving
from A to B to create electricity, by using a long wire separated A and B
so that the electrons can move between these atoms then well to travel
through a wire then moving through that wire to make electricity.

For the 2nd thing:

- Oxidation reduction reaction electrons transferring from C to D, which
normally doesn’t happen because C doesn’t want to give up electron
and D doesn’t want gain.
- Using electricity, we can take the electrical energy from A battery and
use that to pull the electrons from C and then push them to D, even if
these action the movement of the electricity, we can use electricity, we
can use electrical energy of this battery to pull and push the electrons to
make these reactions happen.

Electrochemical is also a vital in a wide range of important technological

applications. For example, batteries, are important not only in storing energy for
mobiles devices and vehicles, but also for load leveling to enable the use of
renewal energy conversion.
