Grade 12 Culminating Portfolio Project: Objective
Portfolios focus on students’ reflections on their own work. They are records of learning,
growth, and change. They provide meaningful documentation of students’ abilities.
Portfolios provide information to students, parents, teachers, possible employers and
members of the community about what students have learned or are able to do. They can
also represent a learning history.
Portfolios bring together curriculum, instruction and assessment. Through the use of
portfolios, teachers and students can develop a shared understanding of what constitutes
quality work, and acquire a common language for evaluating students’ accomplishments.
Objective:
Using programs such as word processors, HTML editors, image editors, etc., you must
construct a reflective-portfolio that will be handed in by January 23, 2012. This will make
up part of your final evaluation and be worth 15% of your mark. The exam will make up
the remaining 15%.
There will be no extensions on this deadline. Treat this project as a final exam. If you miss
it, you get 0%.
The portfolio will contain each major area we have studied this year including:
Your portfolio will include an introduction to your portfolio explaining why you are making
it (not because I’m making you). For each area of study that is displayed in your portfolio you
need a reflection on each piece (see the back of this sheet to see what should be included in
the reflection), and an artifact. An artifact is a memento such as a picture, a printout, a
rubric, a clip or sketch pertaining to the area of study. An overall acknowledgement page is
also needed stating people that you have worked with or have helped you this year.
Must Contain:
r A creative cover (homepage)
r An introduction page
r An acknowledgement page
r Each of the major pieces of work we have done this year (see above)
r A reflection at least, ¾ of a page long including the 3 Rs
r An artifact from each area of study
Retell:
In this portion of the reflection you have to explain in detail what you had to do in
the project. You have to explain what your criteria were, what programs you used,
and what planning stages you went through. (Storyboarding, or writing a synopsis)
List the sequence of events you followed to complete each project.
Relate:
Make connections between each project and your life. Refer to personal
experiences, books, media and or feelings. Compare and contrast each project to
other projects you had to complete in your past. Give examples. How may it be
useful to your career? How may they use this in industry? How could you use the
knowledge in everyday life?
Reflect:
What will you do with the knowledge that you have obtained from this project?
Will you ever use this information again? Did you like this project? Why? Why not?
How would you alter your project if you had the chance to do it again? What
would you change if you were the teacher giving this project? What would you
keep the same? How does your artifact relate to the area of study?
