Historical Places in Tayabas

Manuel L. Quezon Monument

This monument is located at the right side of Tayabas municipality, wherein,

according to Mr. Conrado Padua, one of the historian of Tayabas City. This monument
originally located at the side of post office of Tayabas but former Mayor Carmillo
Nadera decided to transfer it on the right side of Municipality in the year 1965. Manuel
L. Quezon is known as “ama ng wikang pambansa” and he is the first president of
commonwealth. He was born in Baler, Tayabas which is part of Quezon in the past,
the year 1878. He is a model of Filipino citizen where he helped and inspired other in
many ways. In order to commemorate his contribution in his motherland. This
monument is just one example that shows how Tayanbense value and treasure the
contribution of those Filipinos who have great part of the history and sacrifices their
lives for the betterment and freedom of our country.

Children must visit the Monument of Manuel Quezon or attending during the
wreath laying ceremony of Quezon so that they will hear the contribution of him and
not only the monuments but still it will remind them about the history of Quezon just
like other people who have contribution to our country. Children also must know who is
Manuel Quezon behind our province name. Another thing, the monument of Quezon is
near in the monument of Rizal but his monument was not easily seen because it is
inside the extension of the city hall building. Children knows more about Rizal but
sometimes they forgot who is Quezon, so it is also important that they visit the
monument of Quezon to see that there are more people who gave their time, effort and
even life for the sake our country.
St. Michael Archangel Minor Basilica
Tayabas

The Minor Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel is the biggest Roman Catholic
Church in the entire Province of Quezon. Tourists who visits Tayabas, whether secular
or Catholic, Basilica has unique designed that was constructed during the Spanish
colonial era. Built in the year 1585, the church is famous for its longest isle and huge
century old church bells. In 1600 the church was once again rebuilt, this time using
bricks. Unfortunately, in 1743 a major earthquake destroyed the church. Over the
years the Basilica was repaired several more times, added to, and transformed.
However, even through all that history, it remains one of the most captivating Catholic
churches in the Philippines. In 1988 Pope John Paul III conferred the title Minor
Basilica, a fact that would be proclaimed in the beginning of 1989. This Basilica is most
famous for its key shaped architecture, and of course for the Church clock that is found
on the belfry and thought to be one of, if not the oldest in all of Asia. This clock was
installed during the 18th century and is half a metre high, and 42 centimetres wide.
The long hand on the clock measures a half metre, while the short hand measures 62
centimetres.
All people are welcome in the church. I always heard that when the priest gives
homily in mass, even you have sins, whatever your social status is, either you're old or
a child. The children must see the purpose of the church, and must know the words of
God. Furthermore, children must know that church is not only about our diffrences in
terms of our beliefs or religion but it has something to do in our history. Basilica Minor
of San Miguel Archangel is a very historic place and has a great part for the freedom of
our town(Tayabas). They are free to visit the church to pray or to discover something
more about it. The church teaches not to judge, but teach how to respect, and with that
children must learn that during they are young in order to take it continuously.
Rizal
Monumen

The Rizal Park in the city of Tayabas was the first monument of Rizal in
Province of Quezon that was built facing the front of the municipality (now is called City
hall). The Rizal park was called before Plaza del Principe Alfonso, it is named from the
son of Queen Elizabeth II and Francisco de Asis of Spain. It was just known as Rizal
park when the monument of Rizal was built here and so people most commonly known
this as "Rizal Park". The monument was built on June 19, 1914. We can observe that
the monument of Rizal here in Tayabas City is like the monument found in Luneta Park
in Manila because those who made this monument have connection to Manila. This
monument is 2.13 meters in height and just like the other monuments of Rizal in
different towns or city, he is holding a book that represents of what he was fight for.

This place is very important because it is historic. Children must go here for
them to see with their own eyes the living structures that reminds us about our hereos
who did sacrifice for our country. It is important that they know that Rizal is not just in
the coins but there is a great history behind it. We are in 21st century and most pupils
are very dependent in techonology, but through these monuments and other heritage
structure they will remember those people, and their history in order to have a
democratic country. Knowing history of Filipino citizen in the past will make them
involve and most concern to their nation.
Casa
Cumunida
d De
Tayabas

Casa de Comunidad de Tayabas is an old Spanish structure that served various

functions since 1776. Through the centuries, Casa de Comunidad was once as a town
hall, a transient house for travelers, a house for dignitaries, a central school, and even a
prison. Today, Casa de Comunidad is being renovated into a museum. You'll find a
small atrium at the center of the structure, and a public library at the back. The library
houses an intimate collection of battered paperbacks, literary novels, magazines, and
hardbound references such as almanacs, encyclopedias, and law books. Its second
floor, meanwhile, is being made into the Tourism Office of Tayabas. While it was first
built in 1776, Casa de Comunidad wasn't made of adobe until 1831. It was burned
down during the World War II, and later rebuilt by the National Historical Institute. In
1973, Casa de Comunidad was declared a National Historical Landmark by the order of
the Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos.

As a future teacher, it is worth to visit in this place because it helps pupils to

know the culture, tradition and the history of Tayabas. Inside of casa there are exhibit
we’re the suit and dresses of ancient person who represent the city in certain
competition are preserve in order to honor their success. There is also a mini library
that pupils might read some literary genre that most of the author are living in the City in
the past. If children get bored there is a mini playground that he/she might play with
their friends. And last, I assure that this place is safe and pupils might enjoy while they
are learning.
