Why Law School?: 1) Legal Practice
1) Legal practice
Black robes, courtroom filled with police and criminals is the first image that strikes one’s mind
when they think of LAW. Regarded by many, as the only career option for a lawyer, is arguing and
winning cases for their clients. Graduating from a junior to senior roles and moving from high court
to Supreme Court is typically the career path for a legal practitioner. Specializations are available
in wide range of fields including criminal law, Corporate Law,Civil Law, Income Tax Law,
International Law, Intellectual Propertylaw, Copy right law, Patent Law & Cyber Law
2) Legal manager:
With increasing globalization, liberalization and open trade policies every growing company
requires legal advisory on its board to frame and vet its corporate policies and financial decisions.
Legal managers play a vital role in negotiating contracts for the company, ensuring and monitoring
compliance with laws, and handling legal disputes that the company may be involved in. Only a
legal manager can decide if a business decision is in best interests of every share holder of the
company not mere in financial terms but also in legal terms. Aspiring legal managers of National
law schools are placed in MNC’s like GE Capital, ICICI Bank, ITC, IBM, Infosys, Wipro, Dr. Reddy's,
Biocon, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, KPMG, HLL.
3) Law firms:
A law firm is usually a partnership between lawyers who have come together to offer their
expertise to clients under one name. These law firms cater to the interests of large corporate
houses and private individuals. Work at a law firm involves dealing with a wide variety of problems
that may or may not be restricted to a particular area of the law depending on the specialization
and culture of the firm.
Major law firms, both Indian and foreign, recruit from the top Indian law schools. Among the major
recruiters from the domestic legal schools are top law firms such as Amarchand Mangaldas Suresh
A. Shroff & Co, AZB Partners, J.Sagar & Associates, and Luthra & Luthra Law Offices. Foreign law
firms that recruit from Indian law schools include the UK-based Linklaters Alliance, the Singapore-
based Khattar & Wong, and others. Recruits join as junior associates and are promoted based on
performance.
In-house law departments of major multinational corporations outsource some of their work in
order to save costs.
5) Journalism
Journalism offers both challenges and rewards, and is an intellectually stimulating experience.
Legal education enhances comprehensive writing and researching skills, besides equipping
students with facts and figures. A law student will have the option of reporting on legal issues for
which he/she needs no additional training, or on a host of other issues for which on the job
learning is the best bet. Good communication skills and passion for journalism equipped with a law
degree will spearhead one’s career towards great heights.
With increasing readership for online news, blogs, television news channels there is great demand
for capable journalists who have a flair for communication and a lot of curiosity.

Contemporary Curriculum
Students work to a syllabus that is updated regularly to reflect the fast changing demand for legal
knowledge and skills arising from globalisation. The programme provides a platform for specialised
learning of cutting–edge areas of law. National Law School students were the first in the country to
be taught and evaluated by leading international law professors, emerging with flying colours from
this international benchmarking.
Faculty
One of the greatest strengths of the National Law Schools is the excellent faculty they possess.
The stature and prestige of the law schools attracts talented and dedicated faculty members,
several of whom are recognised experts in their fields. Their guidance and inspiration transform
the careers of most students.
Unique Pedagogy
The National Law Schools follow a unique teaching methodology where classes are mostly
discussion sessions, when the student is encouraged to participate actively in the delineation of
matter under study. The curriculum is geared towards self–learning through intellectually
challenging assignments. The student is taught the intelligent use of library resources and the
Internet. This is followed by a guidance for the project work which is essential for the student to
learn the various approaches to problem solving techniques, gathering information, styles of legal
writing, skills of argumentation and presentation and the study of law through cases. The student
