Software Help Manual


Software Introduction
The Datalogger software, allows the user to download the data from the device. The data may be
displayed graphically or in a data table through Excel or similar word processing programs. The major
functions are all listed in the main window.

System Requirements:

Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10

Minimum Hardware Requirements:

PC Desktop or Laptop Computer with Pentium 90MHz minimum 32 MB RAM,


USB Port, 4 MB hard disk space to install Software and USB driver.
Recommended display resolution 1024 x 768 with High Color (16 bit)

Software Installation
Install the supplied Windows PC Datalogger Software by placing the supplied program disk in the PC CD-
ROM drive or downloading the latest software from our Extech.com web page.

If the installation program does not automatically open and provide on-screen prompts, double click the
Autorun.EXE file included on the program disk.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Install USB Driver


Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the driver installation.

Comm Set

The COM port must be selected before you can operate the software.
When the TrLog program first opens, it will start by locating the COM port for the meter.

If the program is able to locate the COM port, the software will highlight the Logger set button in black.
If the COM port is not located immediately, the Auto COM port routine will appear.
Click OK and let the Auto Com port routine locate the COM port.

If the COM port is not detected, Open the Windows device manager and expand PORTS.
Locate the Prolific driver entry and note the COM number.
If the COM number is greater than COM 18, it will have to be changed manually.

Click on the Comm. Set button.


Select the COM port that the device is connected to.
Do not change any of the default Port settings.

Select OK to accept settings, press Cancel to exit.

Once the COM port is selected, the Logger Set and Download Start buttons will no longer appear Grayed
out, indicating that the meter is now connected to the PC and the TrLog software.

Logger Set (Set Logger to record data)

Click on the Logger Set button to open the settings window.

NOTE:
To completely setup the logger, ALL 4 OK buttons must be clicked on.
Click OK for Logger Clock
Click OK for Non-Sleep/Sleep
Click OK for Logger’s ID Setting - Identifier
Click OK for Logger Setting (The Logger set window will close)

Click OK program the PC system Date and Time into the logger.

Sleep Mode Setting
In Sleep Mode the Datalogger display will turn off after the Datalogging has stopped recording.
If NON-SLEEP is selected, the display will stay active after datalogging has been completed.

Data Logger ID Setting


The datalogger ID setting allows the user to provide a unique name for each saved data log file.
The name will appear as the data header in the downloaded data file.

Sample Rate and Sample points

Sample points – how many data points to record.

The maximum is 16,000 (8,000 Temperature and 8,000 Humidity)


Select the desired number of data samples to log: 1000 / 2000 / 4000/ 8000 / 12000 / 16000.

Sample rate – Time interval for how often to make a recording.


This example is showing a 10-minute sample rate.

Set the Start mode

Immediate Start
The datalogger starts recording when the “OK” button in the Logger settings section is pressed.

Scheduled Start
Scheduled Start sets the desired datalogging Start Date and Start Time. The datalogger will start when
the clock reaches the user programmed time and date. Ensure that the datalogger is set to the current
date and time.

Key Start
(For 42280 model - only)
Press the Start/Stop button for > 2 seconds on the meter to start logging

Repeat
(For 42280 Model - only)
Logger starts recording again after the data has been downloaded.

Magnetic Start
(Only for 4226X and 4227X models)
Select Magnetic and then press "OK" to confirm the Magnetic start setting.
To start datalogging in Magnetic mode, place a strong magnet on the LCD display for a few seconds.
When you notice the Record light flashing, the logger has started to record data.

Temperature Unit Setting


42280 /42260 - Set temperature unit to °C or °F.

42270 - Set Temperature unit to °C or °F.


42270 - Set Humidity alarm to °F (w/RH% alarm) or °C (w/RH% alarm).

Alarm Setting

Set the alarm limits for Temperature or Humidity (only one can be enabled – 42280 only).
Set the alarm limits for the 42260/42270 temperature or for the 42270 Humidity.

Select the desired High value or Low value by scrolling up or down or by editing the field.

The ALARM LED, on the meter, will flash If the measured Temperature or Humidity is higher than the HI
Alarm setting or lower than the LO Alarm setting.

Download Recorded Data from the meter
To download any recorded data from the meter, connect the meter to the PC USB port and start the
TrLog software.

Click on the START button in the Download section of the TrLog software.

Download Commands

Start - Begin downloading data (See below diagram)


End - Stop downloading data (typically not used)
Exit - To exit the TrLog program

Data will appear on the Graph


A message will appear at the bottom of the window indicating that this data has not yet been saved to
the PC.

Save File Button
Click on the SAVE FILE button to save your downloaded data to the PC.
Choose the default folder or Select a folder, and name the data file.
The default name is the date, if saving multiple files, it is recommended that you edit the filename.

Retrieve File Button


Click the RETRIEVE FILE button to retrieve a previously saved file.

Graph - Buttons and controls

Cursor 1 and 2
Click on a cursor line to select it. When the red cursor line (1) is clicked, it turns bold red. When you click
the green cursor (2), it turns bold green. The CURSOR STATUS field (lower left) shows the cursor
positions.

Cursor movement
Highlight one of the cursors and use the Mouse or Keyboard to move the position of the highlighted
cursor.

Mouse: Left-click and drag the cursor with the mouse. When the mouse button is released, the cursor
snaps to the nearest data point.

Keyboard keys:
Left arrow key: Moves the selected cursor one point to the left.
Right arrow key: Moves to the selected cursor one point to the right.
<Shift>-left arrow key: Moves the selected cursor 10 points to the left.
<Shift>-right arrow key: Moves the selected cursor 10 points to the right.
<Home>: Moves the selected cursor to the left most position on graph.
<End>: Moves the selected cursor to the right most position on graph.

Display control

Offset Knob
Use the Offset control in the DISPLAY CONTROL field (lower right) to optimize the data viewing area.
Press and hold the left mouse button to rotate the Offset knob to view a different section of the
displayed data on the graph.

Range Knob
Use the Range control in the DISPLAY CONTROL (lower right) to control how many data points are visible
on the graph.
Press and hold the left mouse button to rotate the turn the Range knob to change the view.
Zoom and Pan on Graphs
To zoom in, press the <Ctrl> key and click the left mouse button over the desired point; release the
<Ctrl> key after the mouse button is pressed. The view resolution increases until the mouse button is
released. To zoom out, click the right mouse button.

To pan, press the <Ctrl-Shift> keys and click the left mouse button over the desired point, and then drag
the mouse to another point. The graph view scrolls so that the original point now appears under the
new mouse cursor location. Drag the mouse anywhere on the screen.

To restore the view to its original state (after zooming or panning), press and hold the left mouse button
and drag the line on the Offset or Range knob (located in the DISPLAY CONTROLS section).

Horizontal Axis select switch


Use the mouse to control the switch and select Record number or Time (HH:MM:SS) label for the
horizontal axis of the graph.

Data Table

Place Cursor 1 on the Main window graph to define a section of data to observe.
A maximum of 1000 data points will be visible in the Data Table starting with the location of Cursor 1.

Press the DATA TABLE button to view the selected data.


Data analysis can be performed on the selected data list.

GO Process/test the data using the Channel and Condition selected.


Channel Selects Temperature or Humidity for analysis.
Condition Selects range values - “AND” (both occur) or “OR” (either occurs).
Error Selects and counts all the error codes in the file.
Usage Indicates the number of records that exceeded the limit conditions selected.
Cycle Indicates the number of cycles a record or group of records exceeded the Alarm limit
condition selected.

Goto and Find
Right click in any cell in the table to launch the Go-to or Find Table Cell menu.

Goto
Enter the Row and Column to go to and click OK.

Find
Right-click in any cell in the table to select FIND.
Enter search data and check the condition boxes as needed.

Statistics Button

Click the STATISTICS button to view histograms of data based on the "Whole Range" or the "Cursor
Range".

Whole Range - All of the logged readings.


Cursor Range - Only the readings between the two cursors.

Click and drag the #Of Intervals knob to equally divide all sample readings into 4 divisions (up to 130).
This can also be done by clicking on the UP/DOWN arrows or by editing the field value directly.

The right side of the Statistics diagram indicates Maximum, Minimum, Mean and Standard Deviation
(Std. Dev) values for Whole Range (upper part) and Cursor Range (lower part).

Maximum: The highest reading in Whole Range or Cursor Range.


Minimum: The lowest reading.
Mean: The Average reading.
Std. Dev.: A calculation of the deviation between each reading and the Mean value

Print Graph

Press the PRINT icon to print the graph or table for whatever page that was selected.
Print is available for the Main window graph, Data Table, Statistics, and Group Files pages.

To print an image to a file, check the box “Print to File”

Group-Files Button

Click the GROUP-FILES button to view and compare data files.

Click on the File open icon to open a saved data file for viewing.
Select the color of the curve by clicking the color block.
Print the graph by clicking the printer icon.
