Mechanism of Eagle Clamps
More than 90% of all clamp accidents are caused by incorrect handling or use. Special attention is
required when performing familiar, repetitive work or the clamps are old. For your own safety, read the
following precautions carefully, and be careful not to use clamps incorrectly or dangerously.
• Check the total weight of the load and find its center of gravity.(Fig.1)
• When lifting a load longer than 1 m , take special care to calculate the
saide center of gravity.
If you do not , it can be very dangerous.(Fig.2)
• If oil or water is found on the surface of the load, be sure to wipe it off
before attaching a clamp.
• Select clamps according to the mechanism and capacity necessary for the
load.
• Be sure to use clamps that have an appropriate capacity, max.
working load and opening size
• Match the clamp working load capacity to the weight of the load.
A load should weight at least 1/5 of the working load weight specified for
the clamp.
• It is dangerous to lift loads with a thickness less than 1/4 the maximum
opening size.(Fig.3)
• When lifting loads with a slippery surface , due to oil , paint , etc ., make
sure to use new clamps.
• When lifting a load that weighs less than 150 kg , use different , light
load type clamps.
• When vertically lifting long materials (more than 10 times as long as they
are wide), use our Model SBB clamp.(Fig.4)
• Do not use clamps in place of hooks.
• Never use clamps that have been hit hard or banged against an object.
• Select the positions to attach the clamps so that the locking lever or the
locking latch does not touch the wire , chain , lifting shackle , or other
objects while lifting or lowering the load.(Fig.5)
• Make sure all clamps are attached at positions higher than the center of
gravity of the object.
• Make sure that the locking latch or the locking lever has been set securely.
(Fig.6)
• Make sure steel plates are inserted into the clamp until they touch the
back of the jaw opening . Don't leave a space. .(Fig.7)
• When deciding where to attach the clamps , always take into account
where the load will be set down.
Loads which are especially unstable when set down are dangerous .
• Be sure that everyone stays clear of the falling and swinging range of the
objects being lifted.
Don't lift objects while people are in the danger area . (Fig.8)
• It is dangerous when steel plates which are stacked vertically next to each
other are clamped from the side and raised . Don't do it . (Fig.9)
• When using a number of points for lifting , pay special attention to avoid
an unbalanced load .
• When lifting heavy or long objects (more than 1 m ) , be sure to use 2 to
4 point lifting . (Fig.10)
• Always use proper lifting wires and chains . Before lifting an object ,
check for twists or kinks .
• It is dangerous to lift several different objects using separate clamps
suspended from one hook .
Don't do it . (Fig.11)
• It is dangerous to lift more than one steel plate with a single clamp .
Don't do it . (Fig.12)
• Take into account the impact load at the point where you will be turning
over the object .
• Operate the crane slowly so that there is no great impact (loading shock)
applied to the clamps .
• When lifting oddly shaped or unstable objects , be sure to use a support
stand to keep the object from falling over . (Fig.13)
• After removing the clamps from an object , special care should be taken
so that the clamps do not bang against each other
