The CUBIC Modular System

Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assembly (ASSEMBLY)

A manufacturer is able to construct a low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assembly in accordance with
IEC / EN 61439-series:
- by using the CUBIC modular system following the CUBIC Instruction Manual, guidelines,
instructions etc., and
- by using devices and components that comply with the relevant IEC / EN standards,
installed in accordance with the instructions of their manufacturer, and
- by carrying out design verification and good workmanship, and
- by carrying out the routine verification.

The CUBIC Modular System is designed and verified in accordance with the international IEC 61439 standard. National modification
should be checked for compliance.
List of design verifications performed by the orginal manufacturer (CUBIC) Design verification performed by the assembly manufacturer
1 Strength of material and parts: 1 Strength of material and parts; Marking The assembly marking have to be verified by test.
- Resistance to corrosion For further information see chapter 26
Properties of insulating materials:
- Thermal stability 10 Temperature-rise limits Besides the original manufacturers verification
- Resistance to abnormal heat and fire due to internal electric effects tests, the temperature-rise limits can be verified by
Lifting comparison with a refence design, by calculation or
by assessment.
2 Degree of protection of enclosures For further information see chapter 26

3 Clearances 11 Short-circuit withstand strength Besides the original manufacturers verification

tests, the short-circuit withstand strength can be
4 Creepage distances verified by comparison with a refence design.
For further information see chapter 26
5 Protection against electric shock and integrity of protective circuits:
- Effective continuity between the exposed conductive parts of the 12 Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) At incorporation of switching devices and
ASSEMBLY and the protective circuit components the assemblies electromagnetic

Definitions:

Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assembly (ASSEMBLY):

Combination of one or more low-voltage switching devices together with associated control, measuring, signalling, protective, regulating
equipment,
with all the internal electrical and mechanical interconnections and structural parts.

Design verification:
Verification made on a sample of an ASSEMBLY or on parts of ASSEMBLIES to show that the design meets the requirements of the
relevant ASSEMBLY standard.
NOTE: Design verification may comprise one or more equivalent and alternative methods consisting of testing, calculation, physical
measurement or the application of design rules.

Original manufacturer:
Organization that has carried out the original design and the associated verification of an ASSEMBLY in accordance with the relevant
ASSEMBLY standard.

ASSEMBLY manufacturer:
Organization taking the responsibility for the completed ASSEMBLY.
NOTE: The ASSEMBLY manufacturer may be a different organisation to the original manufacturer.

Modular dimensions The type number of the various CUBIC parts often includes the size of the part stated
in numbers of modules, each of 192 mm.

The CUBIC modular dimension is unique, as it is divisible by 12 different whole

numbers without the occurrence of decimals.

In connection with for instance DIN and ISM inserts it is easy to use both the modular
dimension and the subdimension 32 mm - corresponding to one slot - to find the
combination possibilities.

The order for stating the size will always be:

s, m
lot
6 s h 32 m 1) X-axis (width)
ea c
2) Y-axis (height)
192 3) Z-axis (depth)

If one of the dimensions does not have any practical importance, such as the depth
of a door, this dimension is excluded.

For stringers and barriers, the modular line is stated at the middle hole of the three
Ø8 mm holes.
