a) A 3% of solution of a sewage sample is kept at inclination temperature at 20°C. If initial DO and final DO values after 5 days incubation period are 9 mg/l and 5mg/l respectively, find BOD. b) A certain waste has a BOD of 162 mg/l and its flow is 1000 m3/day. If the domestic sewage has BOD 80 gm/capita, find the population equivalent.
Question No.2: (8 Marks)
a) Find number of openings and number of bars of a screen device to handle 25 MLD of waste with approach velocity 1 m/s. Assume depth of flow = 0.9m. Size of each opening 25 mm, dia of bar = 10 mm, also find head loss to screen if screen is kept at an angle 60° with horizontal b) In a test conducted for determining the relative conductivity at 20° C, the period of incubation is found to be 12 days. Calculate the percentage of relative stability. Question No.3: (8 Marks) a) Find the amount of co2 in kg while completely oxidizing 1 kg of methane. Also find the oxygen demand of methane. b) If the F/M of a 0.4380 m3/s activated sludge plant is 0.200 mg/mg. d, the influent BOD5 after primary settling is 150 mg/L and the MLVSS is 2,200 mg/L, what is the volume of the aeration tank?
Question No.4: (8 Marks)
a) Calculate the discharge of 1.25 m circular sewer laid at a slope of 1 in 360, when it is running half full. Assume n in Manning’s formula as 0.011 b) Find the minimum velocity and gradient required to transport sewage with sand particles of 1mm diameter and specific gravity of 2.65 through a sewer of 1 m diameter. Assume k = 0.1, f = 0.03. The sewer may be assumed to run half full. Take Manning’s n = 0.011.

A town with an area of 10 km2, with population density of 1000 no/ha, supplied water at a rate of 200 lpcd out of which 80 % reach sewer as a sewage. The town receives an average rainfall of intensity 2.2 cm in 12 hrs all of which are runoff. Find Dry Weather Flow (DWF), Wet Weather Flow (WWF) resulting from the community.
