Singing Lesson 22the Hiding Song 22
Singing Lesson 22the Hiding Song 22
Materials needed:
pictures of animals hiding (polar bear and butterflies)
lyrics to the Hiding Song
Procedure:
A.S:
2. “Those were all great answers. Here are a few images of some animals
who are really good at hiding! Butterflies are really good at hiding
themselves in nature, and polar bears can hide themselves really well in the
snow since they blend in with the white snow” Show students images of
butterflies and polar bears camouflaging.
3. “Today I am going to teach you a song about hiding, and we even get to
pretend to be like animals who hide! First, we will learn the lyrics to our
song, then we’ll play the game while singing.” Explaining to students about
our game while getting them excited.
4. “First, I will sing the song, then we will break it up into parts and you
guys will repeat after me. Listen to me first”
6. Teacher asks some questions about the song relating it back to what our
intro was about.
“Can anyone tell me what our song is about?” “It is about hiding! Now in
our game, we can pretend to be an animal and try to hide from our guesser,
but first let’s practice our song together.
8. “Now let’s put the whole song together. All of the lines we just learned.”
Butterflies like to hide
Polar bears too
Someone else is hiding
Can you guess who
9. “Give me a thumbs up once you feel you know the song well enough to
move on to the game.” Wait and see how students respond, practice the song
again if necessary or move on to the game.
10. Direct students to sit in a circle and explain the first part of the game.
“Okay, let’s start our game. First, we all need to sit in a big circle.”
12. “Okay, now everyone else will be singing the song while our guesser is
sitting in the middle with their eyes closed. Once they have their eyes closed,
I will pick someone else to be the hider, but it’s important that we keep
singing while this person is hiding so it is not too obvious who is chosen!
The hider must hide while we finish the song, and once the song is over, the
guesser can open their eyes and look around the circle to try and guess
which classmate is missing. The goal of the game isn’t necessarily to find
the person, but rather to figure out which classmate is missing from the
circle”
13. Practice the game a few times or until everyone gets a turn.
14. While playing the game, the teacher can have students clap to the beat of
the song. If the game gets too repetitive and students get bored change up the
beat faster/slower giving the hider more or less time to hide.
15. The teacher can also switch up the game to have students snap fingers,
stomp feet, pat the floor, etc. instead of just clapping to the beat.
Closure:
1. Can someone share what animal they pretended to be when it was
there turn to hide?
2. Can someone share what other animals they would like to be next
time we play?
Educational Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will have learned
about which types of animals are good at hiding and will have developed social,
cognitive and singing skills. Students will also learn how to play a game while
singing a song.
