3. A resistor and a capacitor are connected in series with a variable inductor. When the
circuit is connected to a 240-V, 50-Hz supply, the maximum current by varying the
inductance is 0.5 A. At this current, the voltage across the capacitor is 250 V. Calculate the
values of (a) the resistance (b) the capacitance (c) the inductance. Neglect the resistance of
the inductor.

5. A resistance, a capacitor and a variable inductor are connected in series across a 200-V,
50 Hz supply. The maximum current which can be obtained by varying is 314 mA and the
voltage across the capacitor is then 300 V. Calculate the capacitance of the capacitor and the
values of the inductance and resistance.

10. A series circuit consists of a reactor of 0.1 henry inductance and 5 ohms resistance and a
capacitor of 25.5 μF capacitance. Find the resonance frequency and the percentage change in
the current for a divergence of 1 percent from the resonant frequency.
[100 Hz, 1.96% at 99 Hz; 4.2% at 101 Hz]
