Troubleshooting
This service bulletin was created to assist Furuno USA dealers in troubleshooting the
EC1010 LAN A Adapter and sensor interface for the FEA-2X07 ECDIS.
• Check the Sensor input setting from the User menu, ensure the sensor is selected.
• Check data strings with the ECDIS LANINS program or with HyperTerminal on
your PC. Received signal should appear as a proper NMEA data string.
o To use the LANINS feature to show a data string on the ECDIS screen:
Connect the service keyboard
Press [Tab] while holding down [Alt] to select LANINS
Press S or D key to select “LANINS Messages Ch1 RX” indication
Press F or G key to select the desired channel number
1
• Check that the Receive LED is blinking for the respective sensor channel in the
EC1010 LAN Adapter. If the RX LED is not blinking, check the sensor cable
connection, then check the sensor.

When troubleshooting the reported symptom of LAN Adapter-1 or LAN Adapter-2
Error, check the following:
• Check that the LED on the LAN module blinks slowly (every 2 seconds) in the
LAN A Adapter. If there is no blinking or a solid light, possible faulty module.
• Check that the LAN cable (CAT5E STP) is connected to the LAN module in the
EC1010, not the RJ45 connector on the PCB.
• Check that the LED on the rear panel of the EC-1000C ECDIS processor blinks.
If it is not blinking, then the Processor is not getting data from the LAN Adapter.
• Check that the software in the EC1010 LAN A Adapter is the same version as the
EC-1000C ECDIS Processor. This can be first checked by looking at the lower
right screen above the Alarm box (e.g. 06.00 06.00).
3
You then must connect a null modem cable between the EC-1000C and the LAN
A Adapter and carry out the SERCOTR command. This will provide the LAN A
Adapter version (e.g. 6.00).
o To run the SERCOTR Command, start by disconnecting the Power cable
from the LAN Adapter.
o Change the jumper settings to the Programming mode (J14=TXP,
J15=RXP, J16=INIT/GND, J17=CTS1/GND).
o Connect a null modem cable between J13 on LAN Adapter to COM1 on
the EC-1000C.
o Open Windows Explorer and then open Shortcut to 7188xw.exe
(C:\LANAdapter\shortcut to 7188xw.exe)
o Connect the power plug to the LAN Adapter, press [Enter] on the service
keyboard.
o Following the i7188E prompt, type SERCOTR, then press [Enter].
o At the end of the file, the software version of the LAN Adapter will be
displayed.
o If the LAN Adapter software is the same as the ECDIS software, return
the LAN Adapter to the normal operating condition.
4
• Check jumper settings in the EC1010 LAN Adapter for normal mode
(J14=TXD1, J15=RXD1, J16=CTS1, J17=INITH). Restart the LAN Adapter (by
removing LAN Adapter power) if you change these jumper settings.
• Check the HUB-100 for LED activity for each connected cable. Check the cable
if the LED has no activity.
