GORDON’S PATTERNS OF FUNCTIONING

Health-perception and Health management pattern

According to the mother of the patient, the patient is rarely go to the hospital or health center for
check-ups. If the patient has cold and fever the mother stated that she would give 'Biogesic' to
relieved the fever and she stated also that she gave ambroxol for cough that was prescribed in
health center- balut.

Interpretation: NORMAL

Analysis: Self-perceived health is a powerful indicator of the health status of young adults
Interventions or programs that address their needs from a holistic perspective, integrating
psychological and social components.

Nutritional and metabolic pattern

As per the 3-day diet recall of the patient, she's bottle fed in the morning, 1 bottle in the
afternoon, and 1 bottle at night. The patient also ate pancit canton and pandesal every morning as
the mother stated. The patient is taking vitamins 'propan' once a day given by the barangay.

Interpretation: DEVIATION FROM NORMAL: The client’s nutritional component lacks


carbohydrates because the client is under ketogenic diet that requires less carbohydrates and lots
of proteins and fats/lipids. The diet wasn’t prescribed by her physician rather solely her decision.

Analysis: Nutrition is a basic component of health and is essential for normal functioning of the
cell. Nutrients are the elements necessary for the normal function of numerous body processes.
Energy needs are meet through the intake of a variety of nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, fats,
water, vitamins, and minerals. These substances produce chemical energy and maintain a balance
metabolism. Carbohydrates is important for body nutrition because it serves as a main source of
fuel for the brain, skeletal muscles during exercise erythrocyte and leukocyte production.

Elimination pattern

The mother stated that the patient has no difficulty in urinating and the color of her urine was
pale yellow, Also there's no difficulty in defecating. The patient defecate everyday without blood
or any problem on her stool and she was often sweating as the mother reported.

Interpretation: NORMAL:
The client has no difficulty in urinating and defecating.

Analysis:Urinary and bowel elimination are basic human function. Regular elimination of bowel
waste product is essential for normal body functioning. Constipation is a common bowel
elimination problem. It is not a disease, rather a symptom that has many possible causes.
Medication such as laxative promotes defecation. However, patients need to avoid regular use of
a stimulant laxative because the intestine often becomes dependent on it. Urinary elimination is
the last step in the removal and elimination of excess water and by-product of body metabolism.

Activity-Exercise Pattern

According to the mother of the patient, playing with sibling is a part of the child's daily activity.
The patient was very active and playful and is able to exercise.

Interpretation: NORMAL: The client’s ability to perform daily activities and exercise.

Analysis: Regular physical activity and exercise contribute to Patients’ physical and emotional
well-being. A program of regular physical activity and exercise has the potential to enhance all
aspects of a patient’s health. Knowing the physiology and regulation of body mechanics,
exercise, and activity helps provide individualize patient care. Contrary, the loss of the ability to
perform self-care or activities of daily living may result not only from illness or adverse
treatment affects but also from deconditioning associated with inactivity.

Sleep-Rest pattern

According to the mother the patient was able to sleep often during afternoon 2 hours is the
patient's duration of sleep during afternoon. At night, the patient is able to sleep at 9pm and is
awake at 5-5:30. There is no difficulty in sleeping as the mother stated.

Interpretation: NORMAL: The client achieved the required sufficient amount of sleep pattern
by having 7 to 8 hours of sleep a day.

Analysis: Proper rest and sleep are as important to health as good nutrition and adequate
exercise. Individuals need different amount of sleep and rest. Without proper amounts, the ability
to concentrate, make judgements, and participate in daily activities decreases; and irritability
increases. Sleep provides healing and restoration. Achieving the best possible sleep quality is
important for the promotion of good health and recovery from illness.

Roles and Relationship

As per the mother stated that the patient lives with her family she does not belong to any
social groups other than her siblings. However, the client has the initiative to interact with other
people in the public and does not feel any isolation from her family.

Interpretation: NORMAL: The client belonging to a family and has a good relationship.

Analysis: Family relationships are important at every stage of life. But they’re important for
different reasons at different ages. As we grow older, our circumstances change and the things
we need from our family change with them. Strong family relationships give people a much-
needed support system.

Values and Belief

The mother stated that the patient elicit tantrums whenever she can't get what she wants. The
patient's religion is catholic, according to the mother even though they did not go to Church often
it doesn't define what faith they have in God. They believe in 'hilot' as part of their own belief as
per the mother.

Interpretation:NORMAL

Analysis: Spirituality is defined as an awareness of one’s inner self and a sense of connection to
a higher being, nature, or some purpose greater than oneself. A person’s health depends on the
state of harmony between physical, psychological, sociological, cultural, developmental, and
spiritual factors. Spirituality helps individuals achieve the balance needed to maintain health and
well-being and cope with illness. It gives individual the energy needed to cope with difficulties
in life.

Cognitive/Perceptual Pattern

The client has no hearing problem and eye problem, the patient was also a fast learner she can
cope up easily. The patient has a proper cognitive function because the patient has an excellent
hearing, which means that she does not need any hearing aids in order to listen. Furthermore, the
patient has a 20/20 vision which means she can see what a normal person with normal vision
sees within 20 feet away.

Interpretation:NORMAL:

Analysis: Cognition is a term referring to the mental processes involved in and comprehension,
including thinking, knowing, remembering, judging and problem-solving. Perception is the
process by which organisms interpret and organize sensation to produce a meaningful experience
of the world. Sensation usually refers to the immediate, relatively unprocessed result of
stimulation of sensory receptors in the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, or skin.

Coping-Stress Tolerance Pattern

According to the mother, the patient was always elicit tantrums whenever she can't get what she
wants or even when she's irritable. The client has no means of coping stress.

Interpretation: DEVIATION

Analysis: Any stressor – tension-producing stimuli operating within or on any system, that can
occur in the lives of a person may actually be experienced as a crisis if the event occurs abruptly,
is unanticipated or requires skills or resources the individual does not possess. Coping is the
person’s cognitive and behavioral efforts to manage these stressors. Effectiveness of coping
strategies depends on the individual’s needs.
