ADDITION
Addition Facts.

1. Addition means having more.

2. The sign (+) indicates addition. It is called the “plus”sign.

3. 6 + 2 = 8. This is an addition fact.

It is read as six plus two equal to eight.

4. In the addition fact 6 + 2 =8

6 and 2 are called addends

8 is called the sum.

5. When we add zero to a number the sum remains the number itself

Example 7+0=7

15 + 0 = 15

46 + 0 = 46

6. When we add 1 to a number, we get the very next number

Example 9+1=9

25 + 1 = 26

58+ 1 = 59

7. When we add the addends in any order, the sum remains the same.

Example 3 + 6 = 9 or 6 + 3 = 9

15 + 5 = 20 or 5 + 15 = 20

78 + 2 = 80 or 2 +78 = 80

Addition using two numbers

We have learnt that a 2-digit number can be written in terms of tens

81 = 8 tens and 1 ones

11 = 1 ten and 1 ones

Now, let us see how we can add these 2-digit numbers.

Example: Add 81 and 11
