Lesson Plan
This is a mock lesson plan for a 9th grade history class, for about a week span. I would on
Monday/Tuesday I would do a class lecture and have the students write notes, for
homework I would assign readings and short activities. On Wednesday I would
introduce the group project and lay out all parameters, and have the students begin
working on the project. On Thursdays, I would have the students get back into their
groups and finish the project (I would make it very short and it wouldn’t take them more
than two days of class time). Friday would be devoted to presentation time, and a short
overview of the next week's assignments to give them an idea of what they’ll be doing.
EDUCATION STANDARDS
1. Standard 1.0
2. Standard 1.2
3. Standard 1.2
OBJECTIVES
1
MATERIALS NEEDED
1. Textbook
2. Classroom computers to make the presentation
VERIFICATION
1. During notetaking time (beginning of the week), I would ask questions and
facilitate an open discussion in the classroom for questions and concerns.
2. Two short homework activities (5-10 questions) that cover key concepts and
vocabulary from the chapter to make sure they understand.
ACTIVITY
For the group project, I would divide the class into 5 groups of 4 or less (assuming there's
about 20 students in the class), and have them choose a prominent figure, battle, or
outcome of the Civil War. Because we will have already covered the chapter, I will let
them have free reign over what they choose, but make sure that the topics do not
overlap. After the groups and their topics have been decided, I would have them create a
very short (1-2 minute) slideshow or video presentation. They would be graded on the
topic selection, creativity, and participation. This wouldn’t be a huge term project, just a
small one to help reinforce what we learned and a lesson to break the monotony of
lecturing and notetaking.
