    THBT Indonesia Government should apply country lockdown to prevent COVID-19

    PRIME MINISTER
    Honorable audiences and judges, this is the prime minister of the ouse and this house believe that
    Indonesia Government should apply country lockdown to prevent COVID-19 spread.
    Before start, this speaker will declare definition of lockdown itself, it is a situation where citizens
    are forbidden to enter an area because of emergency. It also means a country closed its frontier,
    so there will be no foreigners come and go from the country itself.
    And as you know ladies and gentlemen, until this day, Indonesia Government still doesn’t
    consider to apply country lockdown to prevent COVID-19. Jokowi as the president of Indonesia
    said that social distancing and stay away from crowded still can help to prevent COVID-19
    spread in Indonesia.The thing is the suspects of this virus day by day are increasing, even most
    people already did social distancing and stay away from crowded. And did you know, mostly the
    suspect come from those who communicated or affected by foreigner. This is the important thing
    that government need to understand, to prevent the COVID-19, there must be a strict policy
    about this issue. It is not only about the growth of economy in Indonesia now, but it’s about the
    life and health all of Indonesian citizen, ladies and gentlemen.
    And now I will go on and explain, why we definetly should agree with the given motion.Here, I
    have one argument to bring. It is why lockdown will help government to prevent the COVID-19
    is really important?
    First thing fist, let’s take a look from oversea country, take as example, Italy. Because most of
    the citizen think that this virus is not that dangerous, the increasing of this vrius jump into 10.000
    for only a week. This is exactly the reason why we need to do lockdown ladies and gentlemen, to
    prevent the virus spread. We did social distancing, but not all the people did stay away from the
    crowded. In this kind of situation, you know what? Most of indonesian citizen take a vacation
    since they think it is kind of usual holiday, they come and go from one are into other freely, like
    they don’t really care about the virus. This is exactly the thing that government needs to
    underline. How come the government still think about the economy when the growth of COVID-
    19 suspect increase day by day. It is about people life, people health, and prevent the virus. By
    doing lockdown for this country, give them prohibition to come to another area and stay in the
    house as exactly stay. Also, about the foreigner, since this virus are known from overseas, so we
    need to be careful with the foreginer, we don’t know, wether they brought the virus or not, but
    the thing is we need to prevent! Because prevention is better than cure.
    LEADER OF OPPOSITION
    We are not living in our utopia, ladies and gentlemen. We live in reality that has many obstacle.
    Doing a lockdown in such a big country with a big growth of economy is not as easy as the
    prime minsiter already said before to you. We as the opposition is her eto prove this, as a leader
    of opposition I will present spesific reason that will prove lockdown is not the best solution to
    prevent the COVID-19 spread, and it will do more harm than good to our society and point out
    the flaws and the prime-minister argument.
    Here, we have a goal, that instead of doing lockdown which will influence many aspect,
    Government should do mass testing and try to give citizen education about the important of
    ‘independent isolation.
    We have different solution which will not affect any kind of things related to the economy which
    Jokowi already said about it many time in media. We also did not agree with statement that
    Prime Minister said that don’t think about economy only, but also about people life and health.
    But, how if, our solution can bring both of it for you, ladies and gentlemen. I mean, I didn’t mean
    to think about the economy side only, but also about the people health. In order to make
    influence for the economy, it is better for us, to do things that will not influence the ecnomy side.
    And now, I will go on and explain, why we definetly should disagree to the given motion.
    Instead of doing lockdown, government should do mass testing. Take an example from other
    countries such as South Korea which said that lockdown is not a reasonable choice. They did a
    well-organized testing program, combined with extensive efforts to isolate infected people and
    trace and quarantine their contacts. They did, they can prevent the virus. What we should do is
    the mass testing, do a test as much as the government can to prevent the virus. It won’t change
    anything, people who want to work as a dealer can do their thing. But the thing is government
    still need to give Indonesian citizen about some terms that they should do to prevent the virus
    such as wash hand, independent isolation, etc. This mass testing will not influence the growth of
    economy in our country. As long as the citizen understand the important thing of ‘independent
    isolation.’.
