1 Introduction
The WNI20NC0301 / WNI20NC0302 will be embedded on the Chief River platform. The module is
interfaced to the system Through an I2C interface to the Manageability Engine(ME) on the platform which
exposes the device to the host OS
Figure 1 demonstrates one implementation of the integration, where a NFC module is interfaced to the
motherboard through a flex cable connected between the module host connector and a corresponding
connector on the platform. This allows the silicon vendor to design and validate a full module, with the
OEM/ODM designing a custom motherboard to incorporate the validated module into their design. The
module provides I2C DATA and clock lines in addition to Power, Ground and a certain number of GPIO
Lines(Presently one for IRQ). The antenna is connected via a coaxial connector mounted on the module
and is located on the platform at a location that is appropriate for the user experience being targeted. EMI
shielding on the chassis directly above the antenna has to be removed. In addition if the then the location
chosen for the antenna is very close to metal parts (e.g Hard Drive etc less the 5mm away) then the
antenna may need to be shielded from the metal through the use of a ferrite sheet immediately beneath
the antenna with a small air gap to the nearest metal surface.
